I'm thinking of starting up a 'radio' station on KIO. It would feature local bands, commentary, news, regular music, entertainment segments, and anything else that people want to hear. It would be easy to use - the player would be right on the main page of KIO and would start playing when KIO is hit up on the web. Internet radio is probably going to be very big in the next 5 or so years - when the technology is cheap enough to have live internet working in cars. That can already be done via things like an air card, but the cost is still too high to make it viable. In the next few years though, it will be a cheap and easy thing to have internet radio everywhere and anywhere, so I'm thinking why not get a jump on it...!
I would host the station on an outside provider (like the Forum is) and that provider would cover all ASCAP/BMI license fees, as well as make it easy for anyone involved with the 'station' to upload MP3s, or 'shows'. It would also allow live broadcasts, so we could bring a laptop and cover KIHS Football live, or a church sermon, or any event live. It would have regular DJs and that sort of thing playing music, spotlighting local bands, etc. It would have limited advertisers and they would be places that advertise on KIO, adding a benefit to them.
What do you think - is this worth doing? Would you listen to an online radio station that was focused on this area? Thanks for any input.
