I was hoping that I wouldn't have to post something like this on here, but recent Emails to me by residents that are reading this forum have prompted me to do so. Please be considerate when posting on here. I set up a list of potentially offensive words that get censored automatically by the server, but it still requires courtesy on the part of everyone posting on here as well. This is a public forum and by that I mean that kids are reading this too. Thanks in advance.

Thank you. I usually enjoy coming to this forum and reading about different things going on on the island and things along those lines. These past couple days have not been enjoyable to say the least.

The issue of growth on KI is a VERY emotionally charged issue. People feel very strongly about it - on both sides. I can see the frustration of growing up in a rural area and watching it change over time. This must be extremely upsetting for people who have wonderful memories of KI as it used to be. I agree that it is upsetting to see lovely old houses that just need a little TLC, being torn down to make way for new ones. But I also understand the viewpoint of people who are sick of the crowding, traffic, prices, etc. on the Western Shore, and want to come here for a quieter life, only to be treated like they are "intruders".
It is a very emotional issue and I hope that we can all try to be understanding when people voice strong opinions.

Sarah I agree with you on a lot of what you say but the part where things get a little fuzzy is that if people are moving here for a quieter life then they should want to keep it quiet here; not try to make it just like what they wanted to get away from. That is basicallly what it boils down to. This not the western shore and will never be.

When this was allocated as a high growth area by both the state and local government, it meant that this area will grow, and with that growth will come services to cater to that growth. Something should have been done years ago to stop that allocation, but because people just sat by and let it happen, KI is becoming a burb of Annapolis. I think that more planning should happen for this growth though. The fact that state and local government just rolled over for Hovnanian and changed the critical land rule to let them build on sensitive land is disgusting. It's also horrible that the same people year after year seem to block new things like movie theaters and bowling alleys for the kids to do. The drug problem is way out of hand among high school and middle school (yup, middle school) kids because there isn't anything for them to do here. Drugs = crime, and that will continue to be on the rise until the 'not in my backyard' people realize that something needs to be done.
The cat's out of the bag. The government (state & local) screwed this area and the residents let it happen. Now that growth is a reality, we need to do it right or this area will become "Kent Burnie" and nobody (yokels and newbies) want that.
BTW, I moved here 12 years ago from St. Michaels to be closer to work, like a lot of other people.
