Yipes.
Maryland motorists can expect to see a jump in tolls after 2010. With revenues for the Maryland Transportation Authority falling and costs for construction of the Intercounty Connector rising, there's a recession-related squeeze going on. The authority's long-term budget projections assume a toll-revenue increase of about 45-percent statewide within two years. In an increase, the average toll of about three dollars would go up by about one dollar and 35 cents. The Maryland Department of Transportation has been forced to defer more than two-billion dollars in projects.
