Queen Anne's County leaders are looking to create a large conservation zone and sports complex near Grasonville that would include a youth athletic center, a swimming pool, room for a future high school and a 1-acre indoor arena. Would you support this?

Queen Anne's County leaders are looking to create a large conservation zone and sports complex near Grasonville That phrase cracks me up everytime I see it. "large conservation zone" and large sports complex" really shouldn't be in the same sentance... It's been said before, Do it at the OLD outlets, you don't need to disturb any more land for this great project. It's a fine idea. I'm no tree hugger, but why dig up more land, when we already have buildings and blacktop sitting empty, 1/2 empty, or soon to be empty.

I had heard at one point that there may have been a conflict of interest with one of the old commissioners that has since not be re-elected.
I tend to agree to use the old outlets also. Apparently there is not enough water and sewer allocation to do anything at the old outlets. What puzzles me is that there is apparently going to be a hearing to allocate water and sewer to new homes slated to be built along the trail between piney creek road and the exxon station.
Why and the world don't they allocate those resources to the existing outlets so they can be of use to us?

I'll tell you why I won't support it. They are putting it on the corner of Bennett Point Road and Grasonville Cemetary Road. I live on Bennett Point Road and don't want the traffic or the Bright Lights at night. I love where I live and the Goose Wildlife area borders my property. I don't want a Super Complex by me at all. I pay to be in the country and don't want the county to "F" that up. I will guarantee you that there will be resistance from residents of Bennett Point Road and they have the money for good lawyers to fight this. I don't, but they do!

I'm pretty sure they're putting up condos by the old outlets. This would seem to be a good spot for an athletic center which we do need.

That's a shame if they put it at that intersection. There are some bald eagles that nest there.

Bald Eagles fly over my house all the time. Geese love the field that the complex will be built in. I see deer and fox everywhere.

That would have seemed like a smarter decision for the county to have made wouldn't it? I mean the traffic would support the Trail which they spent God knows how much on to create; it would support businesses in the Outlets, it is walking distance to the marinas and restaurants in the Narrows, there is plenty of parking. I would be angry if I spent the kind of money it takes to buy on Bennett Point and then had to deal with that traffic. I am already getting upset that this means even MORE traffic on 18. Good Luck to any family who tries to get there on the weekend in the summer. I did hear from an unamed source that in the next 10 years Rte 18 will be all businesses...

Route 18 looks like it's headed that way. I was thinking that they could use the existing outlet buildings or tear them down for an athletic center. I guess they would have had to wrangle the property from the Jemals, who I believe have been indicted for racketeering, so maybe they would want to unload it. Somebody told me the old outlets were going to be torn down and condos were going up, so maybe it's too late.

I believe that it was Ron the Jamal 'patriarch' that was indicted but that was a little more than a year ago and I have seen him a number of times since then, so I don't know if that went anywhere. It has been rumored that the sons were in talks to unload the outlets but that was before there was when it had been empty for 15 years. Now there are a few businesses so maybe they have changed their minds?

I would love a sports complex for the kids! I agree with the other guy that it should be at the old outlets.

Works for me, especially with that GOOFY Supreme Court Decision last year.

Eminent domain, what a good idea in this case. Never thought I'd say that.

The location on Grasonville Cemetary road was selected because the land was being donated and there was substantial grant money available through organizations like the Tiger Woods foundation because Grasonville Cemetary road is a known drug area. The entire project as proposed was almost completely free of in-county funding.
