Or am I the only one who watched!! LOL !!! Given my theatrical background and all, I never miss it!!! LOL!!
Prior to the Oscars tho I entered a contest on the pics of the evening and I have to say I got everyone right exept for the two supporting nods......
I just knew that "Hurt Locker" was going to prevail, even tho everyone gushed about "Avatar"
I also expected for Jeff Bridges to finally win an award, he should have won years ago.... he is awesome...
And Sandra Bullock...I felt the same as she started her acceptence piece "Did I really deserve to win, or did I finally just wear you all down".....with that said, I am glad she won, because there isn't much she hasn't done that I haven't liked!!! I am very critical!!! LOL!!
Anyway, I thought that Ben Stiller schtick was stupid, and whoever did the writing for the hosts...was awful.... If Steve Martin wrote it....I am really disappointed...but then again, there is only 1 Billy Crystal.....
As far as the fashion, some were beautiful, some were horrible, and I swear at one point on the Red Carpet I could have sworn that Mariah Carey and that little girl from the movie precious had the same dress.....
Anyway, any other oscar junkies out there?

I watched them, and agreed with most of the winners. How about the Kanye West move by that woman who was the producer for the Documentary Short Prudence; what an a'hole.

Is the writing for the hosts ever good?
I'm also glad to see Avatar come home with less than expected.

I watched them, and agreed with most of the winners. How about the Kanye West move by that woman who was the producer for the Documentary Short Prudence; what an a'hole. That was appalling. She basically pushed that poor man away from the mic mid-sentence. I hit the mute button, because not only was she an @hole for what she did, her comments were rude. Someone should have cued the music at that point, and then brought the producer back out to finish thanking the people he wanted to thank. I thought the part where they brought out someone to make comments on each of the "best" nominees was pretty cloying (again, hit the mute button) and for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how the dance segment tied into that set of nominations (and, my kid is a dancer!). They could have pared it down to much less than the 3 1/2 hours it took, and still had a nice show. Too much "fluff" and patting each other on the back. And, I agree, the opening by Martin and Baldwin was not all that funny. (There were some cute parts, but overall, meh. But, Eine is correct, there's only one Billy Crystal, and he spoiled me forever as far as hosts are concerned). Unfortunately, since I never get to the movies much anymore, I can't comment on whether or not the winners were deserving. But, I'm a big Sandra Bullock fan, so I was happy for her.

On a side note, the folks who do the Oscars should be embarrassed at omitting Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur, btw....
(edit: as part of the montage on people who died last year).

I'm glad Sandra Bullock won, she rocks! I'm not really a sappy, chick flick movie type of guy.......but, I always enjoy any movie she is in, not sure what to read into that. I'm big time jealous of Jesse James, I hope he treats her good, because if she ever showed up at the door for some reason in need.....I'd need a divorce lawyer.

To help you feel better, mj, one of my husband's guilty pleasures is "Miss Congeniality". Now, he won't admit to it, but I will watch it whenever it is on, and he will sit there and giggle at it like an idiot....lol. (And he has commented that he wouldn't kick her out of bed, either, yeah, blah, blah, blah....). ;D She plays those "goofy" roles well; heck, even in "Speed", she was amusing. So, pretty as she is, she's hard for us women to hate. And, I've read that she is one of those really dedicated actresses who works hard. I admire people who have that sort of work ethic, no matter what they do.

Yep, always enjoy "Miss Congeniality". Another favorite is "Two Weeks Notice" with Hugh Grant.

McBeth - I'm right there with you on the Bea Arthur and Farrah Fawcett debacle! I absolutely do not understand WHY the were excluded and doubt there is a reason that would justify it in my mind.
Also, I am a fan of James Taylor, but to have him preform live for that segment just seemed a bit off to me. IMHO, I'd rather they just play some nice, sad music and do it in alphabetical order with a giant full screen so that everyone can see who the hell it was and what they did! They started with Patrick Swayze (and I do get the whole Demi thing...) but were covering James Taylor for so long that the "memoriam" to the first couple people came and went so fast, it was almost...well...forgettable.
There have been times in the past when this segment (at least for me) was really moving and emotional...It is a night when the Hollywood elite celebrate themselves however, and it looks like they have become more concerned with mucking it up for as long as the cameras are rolling and not wanting to waste more time than necessary remembering and honoring the lives and work of those who have passed...

Granted, Bea Arthur was more TV and stage, but I think her contributions were at least equal to the contributions of Brittany Murphy, whose career was way shorter. But Gareth Wigan? An agent? Yeah, I realize those folks are important to the actors, but really? Or Army Archerd, who was a columnist for Vanity? And if you're gonna include Michael Jackson (for "The Wiz" and "Captain EO" ), then certainly Bea and Farrah shouldn't have been left off the list. I wasn't as moved by the memorium segment this year as in past, I agree, Water Lady. Not as much "heart" seemed to be put into it this year, IMHO. And, some of my favorites actors were in it (Dom DeLuise, Karl Malden, Jean Simmons and Natasha Richardson, especially), so that made it disappointing for me. It just seemed like they wanted to run it thru, get to the next segment, whatever.

Well Army Archard was on the board of the Academy for years....so yea, I can understand that, I am sure it was a very bad oversight on the academy for forgetting fawcett and arthur......
In my opinion they should cut out a lot of the fluff too...... I think the dance thing was to all the oscar nominiees for the best score...
Did I miss it, or did they not give out the Cecil B. DeMil award? Or were there no candidates.... And I think this was the first year in a long time that I didn't see Jack in the audience.... and I know Sean Penn doesn't like awards shows or to be in the audience.... but what was his opening line all about? And I am surpised that they didn't have Michelle Williams stand in for Heath Ledger this year for the presentation of the best supporting award instead of Robin Williams.... Ahhh so many questions, dammit, I knew I should be producing the Oscars... LOL

I knew someone was missing, now actually realizing they both were!! I told my husband that they left someone out, but I couldn't remember who. WOW.... Isn't that sad, I'm just as bad as the Oscars.

Ahhh so many questions, dammit, I knew I should be producing the Oscars... LOL Point one, well taken, Eine. I didn't know that, so I stand corrected. (Still not a good excuse to exclude very well-known actresses...). Point two, I don't recall them doing it, totally missed that one.... Point three, you obviously would have put more effort and thought into producing the Oscars than the bunch this year did, lol. You have my vote for you to take it on next year! ;D

I stumbled upon this tonight...
Fawcett omission from Oscar segment no accident:
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The executive director of the film academy said Tuesday that Farrah Fawcett wasn't included in the Academy Awards' In Memoriam segment because the actress was better known as a TV star.
It was a difficult decision for the committee that assembles the segment to omit Fawcett, said Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences executive director Bruce Davis, who added that he's not surprised some fans and family members are upset.
Fawcett's family issued a statement through a publicist Tuesday saying they were "deeply saddened" and "bereft with this exclusion of such an international icon who inspired so many for so many reasons."
Davis said the academy committee "was kind of figuring that probably the Farrah Fawcett and Gene Barry omissions would be the ones we'd get the most comments on." He acknowledged that he "did get one letter about Miss Fawcett."
After much discussion by the committee, Fawcett and Barry were both omitted from the necrology sequence. Davis and his colleagues thought that while the two actors appeared in movies, they were better known for their "remarkable television work" and would be more appropriately honored by the television academy at the Emmy Awards.
Davis said "an unusual number of extremely distinguished screenwriters" died this year, and the academy tried to honor many of them in the short memorial segment.
"In every category, you're going to miss some wonderful people," said Davis, who has helped assemble Oscar's In Memoriam montage since it began in 1993.
When asked why Michael Jackson was included when actors were left out, Davis explained that Jackson had appeared in a popular theatrical film recently. Fawcett and Jackson both died on June 25.
"Think of all the blogging we would have gotten if we had left him out!" he said.
Still, he said he understands that the Fawcett and Barry omissions sting.
"There's nothing you can say to people, particularly to family members, within a day or two of the show that helps at all," Davis said. "They tend to be surprised and hurt, and we understand that and we're sorry for it."
... bring back Whoopi and Billy please!
