I've been on the bus a lot lately and there are a lot of new people that don't know what we long timers call "bus etiquette". Here are some things not to do when riding the bus:
Talking on your cell phone. It's extremely rude and annoying to others around you. Notice the glares that you will get.
Talking with your friend the entire ride. I got stuck next to someone today who yammered on with another guy across the isle the entire trip in. Look around and notice that no one else is talking and take that in.
Seat-and-a-halfers: If you are a large mammal, get there early and give people the option to not have to squeeze in next to you. If you take up more than one seat, this is directed to you.
Newspaper readers: Fold the paper as you read and do not hit the persons head with the paper in the seat in front of you. It is also not nice to keep elbowing the person next to you as you turn the pages.
B-Liners: If you get on at one of the last stops out of DC there is no reason to make a B-line to the back of the bus to sit next to and bother someone back there. Those people sit there with hopes that the front will fill up first. The people in the front are less anti-social.
Perfume: Put your perfume on when you get to the office. No matter how good you think that it smells - it really smells like you were dipped in toxic waste. Either put that smelly stuff on after you get off the bus, or better yet - take a shower in the morning and you won't need it. This goes for cologne too.
The Lingerers: If you sit next to someone - MOVE when a full seat becomes available. This allows for the person against the window to gather their things in time for their stop. Don't linger...
Headphones: If we can hear what you are listening to then you have it way too loud. Headphone use is specified specifically to have others around you not have to hear your tunes. It's always the worst 'music' that is played that loud too. Lower the Hip-Hop and spare the rest of us.
I think that about covers it
