I recently moved to the DC area and have been looking at different areas for housing. I liked Kents Island when I went through there one time and was curious how it is for living and commuting to DC. I like water sports and would like to be able to get away from the city a bit.

Great place to live, Lots of things going on,building condo's shopping centers. Some like the change some don't. You can catch the train @ Carrolton Station 20 min's away and take the train another 25 or drive less than an hour. No big deal. Property values are going up,up and away. Right now home sales are dead so it's a good time to buy. One thing about this area is the winter is the best time, no tourists!

There is also a bus system to DC that takes Federal Metro Checks too. It's way better than living in NOVA for so many reasons! We have the water, great restaurants, Annapolis, Easton, a short hop to the ocean, great proximity to both Baltimore & DC, and people are nice. I love it here and can'y imagine why anyone wouldn't.

Other than the local State Police that have nothing else to do it's great. The SP will pull you over for anything, they hate cars without front plates. I have a Porsche and will not put one on... The local cops are much better..Are you looking to buy? Where? and what range?

You have no front tag, You have no gripe then, Maryland REQUIRES A FRONT TAG. get used to it. The SP are doing their job with you, hate has nothing to do with it. If you don't like it go to Delaware....

I also requires Pick Up's to be a certain ride hight, Noise restrictions, no blk out windows, Ect. That takes in 50% of the Kent Island locals that are in violation. I guess they should go to Ritas on Tuesdaynights and give out tickets. Have of the hot cars around here have no plate. As an Ex police officer I never gave a ticket for front plates and seldon for speading inder 15mph over. I have better things to do, like earn the trust and help of the locals on my beat!!!!!. But from what I hear you fall right in there.

But from what I hear you fall right in there. nah, but you're showing what you don't know...... It also requires Pick Up's to be a certain ride hight, Not true, there's restrictions on modifying a truck's ride height, Noise restrictions, Not true again, MD State inspection has no limts, nor does it test noise levels, it checks the exhaust system for leaks, and that there a muffler in place no blk out windows, Ect. Again not true, not all of it, back windows can be (with side mirrors on place, and back side windows can be. That takes in 50% of the Kent Island locals that are in violation. Now you're just getting rude I guess they should go to Ritas on Tuesday nights and give out tickets. Have of the hot cars around here have no plate. Again you are talking out of your you-know-what As an Ex police officer I never gave a ticket for front plates and seldon for speading inder 15mph over. So, you didn't do all of your job either..... I have better things to do, like earn the trust and help of the locals on my beat!!!!!. So go do them, after you put on a front plate. But from what I hear you fall right in there. From what you hear? or from what you read? I don't know what I fell in, but I know I can get right back up, wipe it off and keep going- I have a front tag! ;D So in closing, you didn't do all of your duties as a police officer, so all the other officers should do like you did? Why do we need laws then? I can understand someone complaining about getting pulled over for no apparent reason. You got caught, knew you were wrong, and still complained? c'mon now....

You must have more time on your hands than most of us. Either way you are wrong on most items. Md state inspection is correct but there is noice level laws. Tinted windows can't be over a certain limit in tint. Do you have one on your little toy car. excuse me I forgot what it was. After reading your other posts you must be one of the older locals. By the way, I took one in the chest and I did do my job and very well thank you.

By the way, I took one in the chest and I did do my job and very well thank you. I don't have any more time than anyone else, I work my 40+ and play when I can. Your internet police work isn't very good either. I know in some areas there are LOCAL noise level laws, the problem is what can a cop do about it? he writes an inspection ticket and all the inspection station can do is check for leaks, and a muffler and sign it off. CERTAIN Windows is what I was getting at, Front windows can't be done legally. "my little toy car"? There you go with your rude cop attitude again, and wrong ASSumptions. I have no tint other than factory. I'm glad I sound like a local, I'd much rather sound like a local than open my mouth or fire up my keyboard to conform that I wasn't. You throw around the term "local" in a negative sense, almost derogitory (sp) sounding. Get a little respect for the place that you relocated to, speak to your neighbors, wave at some one you don't know because they might wave back. The local police might pick up on it when they pull you over for your missing tag and just give you a warning. Oh that's right, they must have given you a warning or you would have had to go to an inspection station to see the front tag was installed. Hey ZACK, I've been here on KI 20+ years and never had a problem with the police. I've been pulled over a few times because I deserved it, not because of overzelous cops.

Isn't this getting off topic? Sounds like a nice place at first until you realize people love to bicker endlessly on this forum. Can't we all just get along?

What about daily commute wise. I can imagine that Friday afternoon has to be terrible in the summer. I looked at that bus schedule and it doesn't go real close to where I work. The only buses that seem to come in our area are from Prince William County which I don't care for much.

I take the bus to 14th & K st and hop on the Metro which is right there. I don't go in every day, but when I have to, it's very convienent. Also, New Carrollton has a new huge parking garage and there is always parking there now. It's about a 25-30 minute drive in rush hour to there, then about 30mins on the Metro to downtown.

How bad does the traffic get on a day to day basis across the bridge. I work with a few guys who go down 50 to parts of A.A. county, but don't know about going across the bridge.

Most days, the traffic at the bridge is fine. Going through Annapolis is the worst of it.

On Friday the 16th, it took about 30 minutes to get from ATA Blvd over the Severn River Bridge. I used the EZ Pass lane to get by most of the toll plaza traffic, but waited about 5 minutes after the booths to merge into the 2 eastbound lanes.

The bridge really hasn't been bad at all for a while. Don't know if after all of that construction fiasco, my sense of bad is a little different. But, even Fridays coming back home aren't bad, although I get 50 from Rt.2

The big bottle neck on eastbound route 50 latley is the Severn river bridge. it doesn't even seem like enough traffic to slow it down, but there it is.
Most commutes aren't bad at all. and on the weekends you just learn when to go what direction...
