Sometimes I feel like KI must be on the dark side of the moon. Atlantic Broad Band has got to be one of the worse cable providers And why is that?? They have zero competition. We have comcast down at the beach and the difference is night and day. In one year we have had no problems with comcast and when we initially set it up and had to call tech services (on a Sunday night), we were immediately connected to a live human who fixed the problem within 5 min. Atlantic Broadband problem, not all channels being recd. Called, sat on phone for 10 min before a live person answered. They had to schedule an appointment for tech to come to house, no appointments available for one week. Sigh, set appt. Sat around all day, tech never showed up. Called ABB back, sat on phone again for 10 min before getting to live person. Tech comes out , checks around, says he is not sure what problem is, cant get into box because of wasp and he has no spray on truck. So...he says he will come out tomorrow. "So you can fix it then?" I said. "Well, it could be a maint issue and they could take up to a week to fix" he says. OK, so possible 3 -4 weeks of not getting what I am paying a big price tag. I really wish we could get Xfinity or at least FIOS. Then we could all join the rest of the world with dependable cable and internet.

You dont like Direct TV? Xfinity and fios are way over rated especialy xfinity there was always a problem with it either freezing up or going out.. I have direct TV and it seems to serve its purpose very well for my needs

I just recently went back to "Free TV", had Direct TV for 14yrs.
I bought a $34 roof type antenna and placed it in my attic, ran cable to our bdrm & family rm TV's. I now get about 23 great channels (all the main networks, abc.nbc.cbs, fox) all come in with fantastic HD, I mean stunning HD! I never had/paid for HD before. I get all the pbs stations. great old time TV shows, movie channel, and more, also have netflix & hulu plus all In HD! Total bill $16.00/month for the netflix & hulu. Best choice I've made in a long time!

When all the stations switched over to High Definition one side benefit is much better reception over the air. No need to buy a special antenna, the one you used before the switchover will work just fine. When we are anchored out on the boat we could only get one or two channel. Now we get lots.
Check it out if only to use when the cable goes out. And it is free!!

this is great info! Question for Jake - you just set the antenna up in the attic and didn't actually put it on the roof right? I haven't messed with a TV antenna in 30 years. Do you have to adjust the new ones with HD or do they just pick up everything? I am dying to try this and dump DirectTV paying $1,200/year for crap I don't even watch

You can get amplified indoor antenna to place near your TV or get one for the attic or roof top. Whatever works best for you. You may want to try a set top from Radio Shack and if it doesn't do the job, take it back. That way, it would save you from running cables from the attic.

I did run new coaxial cable, but I understand if your house is wired for cable you can plug right into that. I am also pretty sure if you want to put it on your roof you can; there is a federal law that states all have this right, an no home group can disallow it. what I got...... AntennaCraft HBU22 70 Boom HBU Series Antenna for UHF and High-Band VHF - 50 to 55 Mile Range

Maybe you can pare that down. I watch dtv and over the air. Have a rooftop antenna and rabbit ears, depending on the tv. Life is good.

... I've been trying to download like 20 mp3s from Amazon.com since 4:30PM this afternoon. I just rebooted our router and modem, just in case, but it's still downloading really slowly. Fail.
