If I were looking at this site to try and make a decision to move here... I would be extremely turned off. Some of the comments are so rude and not welcoming to newbies. Just wanted to point that out.

I live in a development that has a lot of people from Annapolis. Most of the B.S. comes from them not the locals or people that have been here for years. I am from the other side also but respect the ways of the shore. You need to know that things move slower here, that in itself is not bad but different from what we are used to. Would I move over here again. Yes. But I wish one or two of the neighbors would leave...Just my 2 cents

K.I. and the shore is friendly, been here 20 years and I wont be going back. You'll just have to know you'll always be a chicken necker/transplant. It's not a bad thing.
The Unfriendly I see on this site is people who move over here and want to change everything to suit them,
I moved here to get away from it- not bring it with me.
If wouldn't base my plans on where to move on what I saw on a website, this one or any other.

We don't want you here. You clog our roads and drive slow. Stay where you belong.
Oh by the way --
OCEAN CITY IS CLOSED FOR GOOD!

People are very friendly here and this Forum is fine as far as getting views across. A lot of whinning going on, but if you take everything here, it's in the middle as far as representing the community. I only see the same 3-4 people being nasty.

Agreed, I would rather be here than on the other side. The winters are great here. Slower more peacefull.

I moved to Kent Island three months ago, and people are very friendly. Don't let a few crabs spoil the pot.

8-)Kent Island is not Annapolis. If you like Annapolis - stay there! If you can be content with a slower pace of life, less choices, no Hummers, and leaving your door unlocked as you run to K-Mart, welcome. Just don't come expecting to change shore life.

Excuse me, but I think there are 4 Hummers on the island that I know of.. Just a little humor! But you are right. Now if we can get a few of my neighbors to go back the Annapolis!

Yeah, I through the Hummer thing in because it sounded good. I was just trying to make a point. I moved here years ago to get away from the crowds. We have enough traffic already, I woud hate to see it become eastern Annapolis.

I agree with you, I moved from the west side to get away from the jerks only to find I have bigger ones in my neighborhood from Annapolis. This is not to say all people from the west side are jerks just a few near me. We do need to start planning the building around here. They are putting a new body shop on RT8 next to the funeral home. They need to clean up the mess, get rid of the junk and the used car lots that look like Dundalk. Look at Oxford or St Michaels. Clean for the most part. We you fist drive on to the island it looks great them you see trailors and junk. As long as there can be PAY offs we wont see it cleaned up. Look at the old outlets, they are storing boats inside. I would think that would be a zoning violation? Fire codes! See you got me going. Sorry for the ragging...

greensboromike....ahhh if it were only that simple...
I am a westernshorer (sp?) and looooove it here!! I hhaaaate the tourist traffic though. My husband is from the south (out in the country) and we moved here because he felt at home. I am one of those "ok now that I am here it's ok to burn the bridge..." people. but yea... um...now that I am here let's burn the bridge!! I love, live and work on the island and really really don't want to see any more Annapolitans over here, THEY are truly the most pretentious and nastiest people on earth!
Alan: Jeffs body shop is expanding they are not new. I was reading some of your other posts and Cracker Barrel had actually made bid on the land behind that pizza shop where the trailers are. But last I heard they had the choice to buy out the leases of those that lived there or sit on the property until their leases ran out, and I heard that they finally backed out entirely.

"really really don't want to see any more Annapolitans over here, THEY are truly the most pretentious and nastiest people on earth!"
That is a really, really unfair generalization. We moved over here from Annapolis, and that description doesn't fit us at all. We moved for the peace and quiet over here, NOT to encourage the "building up".

I agree with Mo. The "pretentious and nastiest people" will always stay there because they can and want to afford living there. It's a status thing, like living on the Severn River. There's no status living on the 'Shore (at least that I can tell), and that's a good thing! It's still a great place to live and most people are friendly enough around here.

MO, I appologize if you have found that offensive. Yes it is a generalization, but it has been my experience completely. I have found personally that Annapolitans are just plain rude. There are some places in Annapolis I just refuse to go to anymore because of the way the locals behave... very inconsiderate...

I think someone needs a realiity check, I left Annapolis to flee the real estate prices, (not the jerks) I loved making the move over hear, and really don't think I've met any real "jerks" in my neighborhood. Anyone who is constantly fleeing or surrounded by jerks needs a reality check. Again, WHY move over here and try to change everything? If it looks so niice there,,, Go on down to Oxford or St Michaels and stay there.... Quit complaining about legal businesses and try to fix something thats actually BROKE.

There are some places in Annapolis I just refuse to go to anymore because of the way the locals behave... very inconsiderate... That's comical..... Don't get "locals" mixed up with "natives" there's a huge difference. You probably haven't met a native Annapolitan. They're getting scarce. The money hit Annapolis way before it hit here and now you see the results. And on Kent Island Your'e still not a local just for living here...
