Lawmakers introduce bill to void 'Redskins' trademark A group of House Democrats on Wednesday introduced a bill that would prevent the term "Redskins" from being trademarked, a move intended to put pressure on the Washington football club to change its name. The Non-Disparagement of American Indians in Trademark Registrations Act of 2013 is co-sponsored by Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), and comes days after a federal trademark panel heard arguments over whether the team name was a slur. The panel could potentially overturn the team's trademark, which would erode profits by allowing other businesses to sell apparel and goods featuring the Redskins name. How about "Indigenous People with an axe to grind" ? I never understood the controversy. When the Redskins were named, the name was certainly not picked thinking it was an inappropriate racial slur.. My guess the name was chosen because it represented some very capable warriors to be feared. Just like the "Bears" or "Lions" or "Tigers" or "Pirates" or "Buccaneers" or "Raiders", or heaven forbid the "Indians" etc.. Maybe the tree huggers who think the name should be changed would like the "Washington Bureaucrats"?? :/ If I was an American Indian I would be proud that my heritage was respected as a symbol of strength and power.

If you asked all of the people in America what the term "Redskin" means to them 25% would say potatoes and the other 75% would say Wasington, DC's football team. The complainers are no better than the "Freedom from Religion" people. IMHO
