A well written piece on how your kids doctors are for gun control. It's full of facts like this: "...He divided the U.S. population in half, classifying half as living in high-gun-ownership states and half in low-gun-ownership states. In the “high gun states,” 21,148 people were murdered between 1988 and 1997, compared with 7,266 in the “low gun states”. He found 369 kids up to 14 of age who were murdered using guns in states with high rates of gun ownership; 97 were killed deliberately with guns in low-ownership states." And: "People are 2.7 times more likely to be murdered if they have firearms in their homes". For the NRA and Fox crowd: "Facts" are actual things that are proven to be true and not a made up lie or distortion of the truth to benefit a political cause. vitals.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/05/13/18200262-pediatricians-take-on-gun-lobby-carefully?lite&ocid=msnhp&pos=2NRA and Fox News talking points start below:

What you're spouting aren't facts. They are statistics. I assume you can learn the difference on your own, but let me know if you find yourself not up to the task.

I think the report and referenced research is completely bogus. Common sense tells me that metro areas, eg. Chicago with high densities of people experience a much higher crime rate than low density areas like East Fork, Montana. Plus, common sense leads me to believe that the percentage of homes with known guns is much higher in rural states than high population areas where gun ownership is limited to the criminals. Look for example at Washington DC, the murder Capital and their laws prohibiting private gun ownership.
Here are some stats on gun ownership by state. Notice that those states with the highest gun ownership don't even show up on the radar of the list of states with high crime rates with guns.

Open your mind and your heart. Gun violence is a problem and crime will drop if they are better regulated. NRA and Fox News talking points below:

This is from CNN so it must be true! May 9 2013 Study: Gun homicides, violence down sharply in past 20 years (CNN) -- Gun-related homicides and crime are "strikingly" down from 20 years ago, despite the American public's belief that firearm crime is on the upswing, a new study said Wednesday. Looking back 50 years, a Pew Research Center study found U.S. gun homicides rose in the 1960s, gained in the 1970s, peaked in the 1980s and the early 1990s, and then plunged and leveled out the past 20 years. "Despite national attention to the issue of firearm violence, most Americans are unaware that gun crime is lower today than it was two decades ago," the researchers say. A Pew survey of Americans in March found 56% believed gun-related crime is higher than 20 years ago and only 12% said it's lower. The survey said 26% believed it stayed the same and 6% didn't know. www.cnn.com/2013/05/08/us/study-gun-homicide
