Why does anyone care how one uses their vacation time? I wonder if they would grant an extra 10 days of leave to other couples to also get married in any place they please to allow them the travel time? IMHO - what is your personal business is your personal business, the government should not get involved!

What I find ironic (or moronic) is the certain groups who push and fight and protest and so on, to have "equal" rights, recognition and treatment, never seem to say "thank you, we just want the same treatment...no need for anything extra." You want your partner recognized? It happened. You want equal benefits for your partner? It happened. Can your partner (now your spouse) receive health, dental and vision benefits? Yes they can. Can your partner (now your spouse) make decisions for you in your absence? Yes they can. Can your partner (now your spouse) be the beneficiary of your Life Insurance Policy? Yes, but that was always the case... There. Now we're equal. Last I checked, active duty Military Members receive 30 days leave per year. When I was stationed in Japan, I did not receive "extra" leave to make it "all the way" back to the East Coast to visit my family. No one asked and no one cared. 30 days leave is 30 days leave. What you do is your own business and if people want to be treated equal, they should not only talk the talk, they should have to walk the walk. This is the kind of over-reaching, political correctness that does more harm than good. Talk about causing massive resentment. Good Grief!

Why should anyone get preferential treatment because they are not heterosexual. Just because I don't support your anti-God, Amoral agenda does not make me ignorant, racist, bigot, uneducated, hater, inbred, moron.

When I was in, I got 15 days extra leave to come home on "Recruiter's Assistance".
If they want extra leave, they could apply to that program in the state of their choosing.

It was immediately after Boot Camp and before Basic Training. I was in before you were so maybe it changed, but we were not allowed to choose our destination - it had to be the Recruiting Station from which we enlisted. A lot of people thought it was a back-door way of getting 2 weeks "extra" leave but I went back to Dallas, Texas and they worked my fanny off! I guess it could work depending on the individual, but I can't imagine having my own wedding and the fluff that goes along with it while working the way I did... How did it work for you - meaning your schedule and quota?

Pretty much the same, but my station was more lax (Springfield, MO).
I didn't use it after boot camp, though. I used it in conjunction with change of duty station leave between Twentynine Palms CA and Newport RI.
