Updates: We want to make mention of a few changes we've been monitoring in addition to some problems that still persist...
Terrapin is looking better this season. The Beach Permits are gone and we still have the Park Rangers. This is good news. The Park Rangers are cleaning the beaches, Thursday's thru Monday...off Tuesday's and Wednesday's. They state that they don't think they're presence is keeping the polluters from trashing our beaches because they still have to pick up after people. They are unable to ticket anyone doing anything illegal (polluting, open fires and fishing without a license), although, we think this would help tremendously.
New signage is being placed today, thanks to the Eagle Scouts, that will educate visitors on the environment and special habitats that exist all throughout Terrapin.
The QAC Parks Department has designated a specific fishing area, south of the inlet, for fisherman to go. The "main" beach area by the gazebo is no longer a fishing area. Although the signs are somewhat confusing at this point, we are told this will continue to be improved over the next few months.
We are so happy that Terrapin is getting more attention than it was when we first started cleaning it 3 years ago. Improvements have been made, but we still have a long way to go.
