I guess I started this whole mess about the Restaurants. Let me clarify something.
I DO NOT WANT A HOME DEPOT, WAL-MART, LOWES, BEST BUY, TARGET (maybe), OFFICE DEPOT, GIANT (maybe also) OR ANY OTHER BIG BOX SHOPPING RETAILER.
I don't think anyone on the Island does.
Not only do they not make sense, especially with 2 Home Depots in Annapolis, I don't think they could generate enough business with the exception of Walmart/Target since there is no Annapolis presence of those brands but it would make more sense for them to be in the Annapolis,Crofton,Odenton area anyway.
ALL I WANT IS AN APPLEBEE'S. In looking at all the chain restaurants, I believe Applebee's has the best selection that would meet the needs of the Island residents. And it's more affordable than some of the newer "Mom/Pop" restaurants starting up.
As far as cleanliness, ALL KITCHENS ARE DIRTY. I was only referring to the dining areas. This is because many of the chains have corporate inspections where the dining areas are a major part of their evaluations.
I'm not sure why everyone was so upset about an Applebee's anyway. All anyone does is complain about local restaurant quality, service and price. I was simply offering a suggestion.

What part of GO TO EASTON Don't you get? It's not just about crApplebees, it's any of them, they are close enough now. They weren't here when you came here. If you wanted to be closer to them you made the wrong choice by coming here.... I came here for a reason, and it wasn't to bring everything I left behind WITH me...

I finally convinced MrsMule. That woman is a shopping fool. I tell her to go to Easton and she gladly goes. She shops; I vegetate for a few hours in quiet solitude... Life's good!! ;D

Easton to me is a bit far to drive for a franchise restaurant. Especially when Annapolis is closer and has many more selections. My only point is I'm all for driving to go shopping. Shopping is an event in itself and depending on what your shopping for could take all day. So driving to Dover or to IKEA is not big deal.
All I want is to have a quick commute to take my family to a reasonably nice place to eat once a week with a menu selection that everyone can find something and whose bill won't require me to wince when the waitress drops it off.
And, In regards to the whole "you moved here and have no say" arguement that seems to be popular with some "long-term" residents...
Seniority of living on the Island doesn't give you any more "say" on what is or isn't a benefit to the residents. My wife has lived and breathed KI air her whole life, as have her parents, and they all want an Applebee's too.
Ask the Indians er Native Americans about residency and voting power. I'm sure the Native Amerians aren't happy with all the "Glen Burnie" stuff we've brought to the Island. You know, stuff like Electricity, Running Water, Red Eye's Bikini Contests.
Also, just for my notes... Do kids born here on the island out-rank "long-term" residents? I mean after-all, they were BORN here and you moved here.

You've answered your own question, if Easton is too far to go for a franchise restaurant it's not worth having one closer.
20 minutes is NOTHING of a drive for ANYONE who's been on the island more the 15/20 years, yet alone someone who's grown up here.
You are WAY too hung up on Applebees, looks to me like their ad campaigns have you eating out of their hands. Get out once in a while, theirs plenty of good once a week restaurants right here now that wont make you "wince" when you get the check.
I never said anyone had more "power" or "say" over anything on the island, I voice an opinion, mine.

Thanks for voicing the opinion lots of us share, bchevy.
Kent, get over yourself. You whine about a restaurant, people say we don't want it. You somehow think you have more right to shove one down our throats, than we have to say "no thanks."
What's the difference between your whining about a crappy canned restaurant and "long time" residents saying they moved here for what it is, not for the changes you propose?
You really need to turn off the TV once in a while. Those ads are getting into your head.

I guess you've never been to Island Inn -- A CLUB SANDWICH IS 9.00 OF TURKEY AND CHEESE... I can get an entire hearty meal at Applebees for $7.00...
I'm going to petition for a chain resturant at once. I hope they build 2 at Safeway, and 1 in your backyard.

I live on the south Rt 50 division line of Kent Island, i wish they would build another McDonalds but on the south side so that I dont have to travel all the way over to the north side. Can that be done. Lets build it where the used car lot is behind Shortstop Pizza that way they will have to fix that intersection from the service road. The hell with Applebees lets eat more happy meals. Sound good?

BWB --
I think a connector road from shorestop to Cox Neck would do wonders. Like extend Route 18 to meet on Postal Rd. That'd cut off tons of Route 50 traffic

a connector would be great, but all of that just so you could eat at Mcdonalds?? Aren't there ANY places (locally owned) that you would rather eat?

I agree, and maybe we could put another used car lot north of rt 50. That way I wouldn't have to crossd to the east bound lane if I feel like buying a used car on the way home from the outlets!

I agree with GW. I hate having to sit in bridge traffic to get my Big Mac fix.

C'mon now, hasn't every guy bought a $100 car at one time in his life. I know I've bought at least a dozen (including last weekend!) just for fun.

Do you buy them from ALL of the different car dealerships?
Hey speaking of buying last weekend I went and bought a brand new speed boat from EACH and EVERY Boat Dealer too, since those things are popping up everywhere.

why did I just realize that all along I thought Greensboro Mike and GWDumb were the same person? I appologize if either of you were offended... because at least one of you will be!! strip clubs (of any kind)- no no ; strip malls - no no ; if you want greasy chow on the Cox Neck side I have seen some guy cooking chicken on a big grill in the back of a gas station right next to the old used tire pile. I'll bet they are just as good and just as clean as the McDonalds!
