Quiznos, Ledos, Dominos, Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell, KFC, KMart, Great Clips, Radio Shack, Safeway, Acme, Food Lion, Rita's, Exxon, Jerry's Subs and Pizza, Squisito, Hardee's, ACE, True Value, Happy Harrys, CVS, Rite Aid, 7 Eleven, Remax, Century 21, M&T Bank, Bank America etc...
So I'm still confused, if we add an Applebee's... Then we'd be Glen Burnie.
Why are some people so irrate and biggoted about having an Applebee's on the Island when we have every other type of national franchise here already AND on another thread people are BEGGING for a Starbucks and/or a Panera Bread franchise???
Why are all those other Franchises types okay with the Applebee bigots? I just think our franchise selection should be more than McDonalds or Subway.

Anyone who would use the bigot word with a restaurant must be confused. Here's a clue: IT'S NOT JUST APPLEBEES ok? Got it? You are the one hung up for an Applebees, geesh

I think its great that KI has no chain restaurants, other than fast food and pizza. If I want Appleby’s I can drive to Annapolis.

So if it was built you'd still drive to Annapolis?

Actually bchevy, Kent is using the word appropriately and in fact bchevy you are THE DEFINITION of a bigot. Look it up. It has many meanings some of which are as follows:
a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or OPINION
a person who is intolerant of ANY OPINIONS differing from his own
You are intolerant of any opinion on any issue on this forum that differs from your own. It's one thing to argue against an opinion and an entirely different thing to belittle other people and make them feel as though their opinions are ridiculous and wrong just because you don't agree with them.....

Wow, I guess you told me. I guess this place is full of bigots then. I've said it dozens of times and still some don't see it. I state MY opinion, in MY words, Sometimes the wrong words but oh well. For the most part I don't get fired up unless someone else fires 1st. Tolerant? You have no idea.... If being called bigotted against a chain restaurant is the worst I do this week..... I've done REAL GOOD!

It wont stop until every piece of land that potentially can be built on has some type of building on it. Parking garages will have to be built then. Or better yet lets start back filling creeks and rivers and building there, or just build on stilts over the water. You could drive to work in your boat if you worked local.

exactly my fear.... do you people get it now? you are right, it's not just Applebees somehow somewhere we got hung up on that restaurant. It's just that kind of growth. We moved here because it WASN'T like that and didn't seem to be going that way. Then all of the sudden, we started to see signs. It is a slower pace on this side of the bay, it's quieter, with the exception of weekends in the summer. All we are saying is this is the way we like it.

oops I forgot something... have any of you driven through Cambridge lately? Remember when it used to look like Kent Island?

Growth is inevitable, whether we like it or not! Yesterday, we became a nation of 300 million. Thats a lot of people, and many will move to Kent Island. We will be Cambridge soon, and more. Quaint shops and boutiques are slowly disappearing from the island. I've seen it in my seven years here. Hopefully, our commissioners will recognize this and only allow responsible growth to the Rt 50 corridor. The island has so much natural beauty and I would hate to see it spoiled with strip malls and commercial buildings.

The one bad thing about KI is that it really doesn't have a town center. I mean, we have historic Stevensville, but it's so small and there really isn't much in it. Unfortunately the strip malls and that sort of thing are becoming the 'town'. At least Easton and Cambridge have downtowns that have something significant to offer, although the last time that I was in Cambridge it was beginning to become a really scary place. The strip-malls and fast food places down there are pretty much just on 50 for the beach traffic and commuters more than the locals. Maybe if KI concentrated on doing something with Stevensville, the strip-malls wouldn't be so appetising to a lot of the residents?
