I've heard on and off now for the past year about the Giant. Does anyone know for sure whats going on? I heard that its supposed to be one of the "super Giants". I don't think we need it with everything we already have, but I would definitely shop there. Those stores are really nice (salad bars and starbucks inside most)!

Don't know anything for sure on the Giant.
However, if the Giant goes like the Safeway, Four Seasons, Medical Center, or KIFD, you'll be hearing about it for a very long time before you see any actual progress. (did the most recent Safeway sign claim 2006 or 2007?) If I remember correctly, we heard about the Giant at about the same time we heard that Four Seasons was going through. Now that Four Seasons is being held up again, I wonder if the Giant people are waiting to see what happens.
I agree, if they build it I will probably shop there...at least a little. I would be interested to see what they had to offer and how it was different from the Safeway. At the same time, I sure don't see the need for another grocery given that we already have three full blown stores on the island, Safeway is expanding (someday), we have Kent Island Depot, Market By the Bay, the place across from Big Bats, a mess of seafood stores, and some kind of mini-mart at most of the ten or so gas stations on the island. If I were the Giant people, I'd be thnking hard about whether I could take enough shoppers away from these other places to keep a new store profitable.

You say "four Seasons is being held up".... why? I live right beside the area where they are going to be putting it in. Although I would rather have the nice open fields, if they are going to put anything in, I would rather it be a nice older (over 50 community) than just regular townhouses or a shopping center.

Trying to stay completely unbiased here.... There is a group of people who believe the Four Seasons should not be built. They seem to be raising every possible legal objection that they can find. I *believe* most of these have failed, but there are still some being considered. As far as I know, things could still go either way, but right now there isn't much forward movement on the development.

Well, here's one vote against. How many grocery stores does such a small community need?
As to Four Seasons... what was the land originally zoned for? And what is being built? Are they even remotely close to the same thing? Is the developer following statewide environmental regulations and restrictions on that land?

Why even have any Zoning laws, and "comprehensive growth plans" if all someone with money has to do is file for an exeption/exception/zoning change? I really don't get it..
Kind of like the critical areas laws- another joke, if you have enough money, you can build, if not- you'll have to sell 'cause the taxes will run you out.

Sorry Lynn, but Four Seasons does not belong. I'm sure you know K. Hovanian's track record, and it's none to good. Besides, my mother's property is right on the line of where Four Seasons wants to build. Can we say Chester River will be polluted before we know it?

In response to "concerned neighbor" regarding their mother who lives where 4 seasons is to be built. I live right there too!! My point is, the land is not going to stay open fields forever. Land is too expensive. Other than having the county purchase the land for a park or something (which they would never do because of the lack of money) what would you want to go there? Again, I would rather have the land open, but if something is going to be put there, a "50 plus community" is probably as good as it can get. Lynn

Where is Rt. 552?

I believe that is Dominion Rd. The Ruby Tuesdays would either be in the lot that is now empty (SE corner), or perhaps in the building that is now Chesapeake Outdoors. I believe that building used to be a Ruby Tuesdays-like place before it was the hunting/fishing store.

The Ruby Tuesday location is near the Chesapeake Outdoors but I don't believe it is that exact building.
And it was a Golden Corral before the outdoors place.

The outdoor store is the first to survive for any real length of time in a while in that building.

Eek. As a person who drive down Dominion Road every day... I would date to see a Ruby Tuesday on the corner. I'm thrilled that the falling down building is gone, but a Ruby Tuesday? Also, a plug for the Chesapeak Outdoor store -- it's a great outdoor store. The staff is friendly and helpful. Plus, their prices are competitive.
One last thing... where did "Mikey" find that list of pending development. I would love to keep track. Thanks, all.
