Next month we will elect a new sheriff. After reading the posts I am curious what the citizens concerns and opinions are. Do we want the Sheriff's Office priorities continued to be focused on traffic enforcement or patrolling the residential and business areas? I personally would like to see them in my community regularly.

My opinion, taken from a post in another topic:
When it is obvious that the authorities, including the Sheriff's Dept, are focussing on reducing real crime rather than generating numbers, then the people's opinion of them is likely to be much better than it is today. Today, seeing a Deputy or a Trooper often causes most people to worry that they must be doing something wrong. Maybe someday, much as it was a while ago, seeing a Deputy or a Trooper will be more of a happy occasion. The candidate who will work towards that day will get my vote.

1. What will be your plans for a new facility for the deputies? 2. Will you address the speeding complaints in our communities? 3. What is your view on Community Policing, when will we get it back? 4. Will you both work together to better our community after the election?

Didn't both candidates say " We look forward to running a clean race" in a recent article. Its a shame that family and friends are compromising the sheriff's race. Maybe some of you should take the advice of the sheriff candidate you are supporting. But then again, one candidate was told to not run negative ad's in the primary. It cost him the support from me. I hope you remember, sometimes the negative blogging and ad's, will give the vote to the other guy! Ask EB, it gave him -800 votes! Please positively support your sheriff, let us know about him, not this whining!

No one knows for sure that candidates or family members are indeed the publisher of these blogs and the accusations against them are just as wrong as the blogs themselves. These blogs are voter's opinions and you can really only take them at face value. So whether you have concrete evidence for one candidate or another please stop all this slander.

In response to uvrays post. I am not a candidate, however, I maybe able to give some info. As to Question#2, Community Policing is a fairly new perspective that is proactive and information based. Based on constant and strong police/community contact, the emphasis is then placed on designing cooperative strategies within the community that will interdict criminal activity before it occurs rather than responding to crime after it does occur. This is based on some old police strategies that were used by many police department foot patrol units since the turn of the century. This is a full time effort where information is received from the community and channeled to the specialized units within the department for enforcement. As part of "Community Policing", information can also be channeled to other county/city agencies regarding other matters. The Sheriff's Office in the past has only applied the enforcement efforts towards the speeding complaints received from the communities. So the answer to Question #2 is that the enforcement of speeding complaints never stopped since this has always been a priority in the agency. The issue at hand is not enforcement, rather manpower issues. The answer to question#3 is that the commuunities in Queen Anne's County have never really been exposed to real "Community Policing" as it is defined. The Sheriff's Office under the current administration has never gone the distance to apply this concept as it should be implemented. Former Deputy
