Slots: I not in favor of them- IF it's to help out a dying industry like the ponys. No way. The state has bailed them out before. This industry used to make money hand over fist and all they did was pocket the profits. they put $0 back into the business, and everytime that things get tight, they cry to the state to for help. NO THANKS, let the pponies go the way of Jousting! I would totally be in favor of slots, MAYBE, if would GREATLY LOWER my taxes. After all Slots is just a fancy name for a voluntary TAX. I could give a load of *&^% if people are going across state lines to spend their money on slots and I'm really tired of hearing about it on the news. It's all crooked- remember when the LOTTERY 1st started? is sold to us on the basis of helping to fund education. How did it go from there, to the stadium authority? CROOKED.

I never have quite understood why: Lottery = Good Poker = Bad Horse racing = Good Slots = Bad (Slots funding Horse racing = maybe good) Don't know much about Dover or Atlantic City, but Las Vegas doesn't seem to be doing too badly. Is there crime? Probably is, but don't remember Las Vegas being in the top five murder cities of the US. Is there poverty? Sure, but I don't think DC or Baltimore is immune from poverty now. Am I missing something, possibly important? I'm sure I am and someone will be pointing that out shortly I probably wouldn't spend much time playing slots so in that respect I don't particularly care if they came to MD. But, if hundreds of people are going to give their money to the state, it might as well be my state. However, I really wouldn't want that money going to prop up a racing industry that ran itself into the ground.

The bottomline at this point is that Millions upon Millions of Marylanders money is going across state lines and helping other states. Every state around us has slots at this point. It has certainly helped WV and Delaware. It probably won't lower our taxes, but will take a lot of upward pressure off of raising them. Maryland needs them, if nothing else, so we stop sponsoring other states schools and projects they do with the money recieved by allowing slots. It's silly at this point to hold the line on not allowing it. Democrats

I want slots. Any additional revenue for the state would be welcome.

Disagree.
Maryland rakes in enough already - the problem is the bureaucrats just spend it too fast. Give 'em less and make do with it.
I don't care one way or the other about slots in particular, but this crap about the government needing additional income irritates me.

I agree, I work for county gov't. and see the waste everyday, What needs to be done is a massive- top to bottom AUDIT to look for some waste, reward employees for finding it and reporting it. And put into place some ACCOUNTABILILTY for all management for any waste in their dept. If my boss had any accountability for the wastefullness in his dept. he would, should, and could clean it up fast.

How about we get rid of the road tolls that cause major headaches on the Bay Bridge and supplement the money with slots? That works for me. The tolls to me represent sheer greed on the part of the state at our expense.

How about we simply have some oversight on the MTA's expenditures at the Bridge? I see they bought themselves a nice new building a couple years back, the bridge was painted (twice?) and partly resurfaced... tolls are the same, trips are up IIRC, and yet little's being done to finish repairing the surface. If they're not spending it WISELY then they ought to reduce the tolls (for commuters ). I don't gamble, so I don't care about the Idiot Tax that slots are. Rumor has it the Hyatt in Cambridge has a floor full of idle slot machines... just awaiting the green light to start collecting their share.

We need another Park & Ride so the people traveling to Delaware to gamble have a safe place to park. Our tax dollar pays for the Park & Ride while the money goes to another State. The bus company hauling the gamblers is a commercial business which is being subsidized with Our Tax Dollar................pete jr

Gambling has helped Delaware? have you been to Dover lately? would any of you want to live there?
Bchevy you can thank Mr. William Donald 'the Eastern Shore is a S***house' Schaefer for the changes in where the funding went. What about the Save The Bay Foundation $$ (Donated $$) he heisted to cover the education fund in the early 90's? yes, he did that... um could it have been that the education fund was short because there was a new stadium built? hhmmm... which fund will they steal from to fix the dirty problem in the Bay? (I just about fell off of my chair when I heard on the news that Ecoli and hepatitis were found at Sandy Point)
Who is playing slots? Elderly, low income. All hoping the $100.00 or more per week of their already restricted incomes, they drop on the lottery or slots will yield them a cool mil... and what are the statistics of those that play vs. those that win? Forcing them further into poverty. It is sad really, should we fund the elderly's economic downfall? Well I guess we aren't going to cover our own social security so maybe we should jump on the bandwagon now and start investing in the 'slots will fund social security' fund. You gotta know that is coming next...

So again, why should we have SLOTS, to help a failing industry like Horse racing?
Have slots, with most of teh proceeds going to education, get these kids out of the portable classrooms and back in the building with the rest of the students.....
