Well did ya hear the news, we're going to pollute oursleves out of our own food supply.
Is anyone surprised? Or do you still not believe it?
I grew up on the South River, you could go down to the pier ANYTIME of the Day or Night and catch more than 1 kind of fish, and of course there were plenty of crabs, and PIKE in the cooler months.
Now you go down there and you're lucky to catch anything, if not get SICK.
When is the State going to get SERIOUS about cleaning up the bay?

T.V. News WJZ, CNN, reported that the worlds fish supply is in serious danger of being depleted by 2040 due to pollution. Our bay is well on its way, and probably beyond the point of recovery. The waterman knew it 40 years ago. Apparently the DNR police under Charlie knew more than those uneducated nobodies. As a boy you could see a crab on the bottom in 20' of water. Now you can't see your feet in 3'. If yoy catch a fish in the Corsica River with corn or peanuts in it, throw it back. It's probably not a fish.

I honestly believe that the first steps are finally being taken. The big polluters, Balto City, WSSC and a few others are on notice to clean up or pay some seriously stiff fines via 'Consent Decree'. I'm on the data/reporting end of this thing for WSSC. IT'S HAPPENING! The checks and balances back to the MDE for spills, overflows and all that crap (no pun intended... well yeah, it was) are there and real. The actual inspection of infrastructure the WSSC is going through is incredibe and is really happening (read: not just lip-service). It's not just the waste water treatment plants, but the entire sanitary district must be inspected, documented and reported to the MDE over the next 10 years. When done, you start over.
I can't answer for businesses, but the utility i work for is all over it like a big-dog.
I also have my septic pumped every three years to keep it fresh as a daisy at all times ;D.

One more thing to add... It took how many years for us to screw things up? Screwing it up was the easy part. Clean up and restoration won't come fast and it won't be painless. I too remember being able to see my feet on the bottom in belly-button deep water. I want that back.

I'm close to some utilities- read- sewage treatment plants, the problem wont go away until you take the human factor OUT of the testing at these plants. Remember the mess in Centreville? It goes aon at MOST plants, Centreville just got CAUGHT, that's all.
Automate the testing, record the results, MDE will be shocked (NOT) at the results.....
