Anyone know anything about windows?
I meant to look into this last year but never got to it, so I put the blow on plastic sheets over my windows. Will I be paying more for windows if I get them now right before winter? Right now I have single pane windows and they let a lot of cold air in. I'm afraid with the way the electric has gone up my bills will probably be $500 or more each month.
Also, would it be cheaper to get Thompson Windows or another window company, or would it be better going to Home Depot? I would just get total estimates but they have different windows. I don't need anything that flips down, just a good double pane. Thanks, Lynn

We did Lowes about two years ago. Lot's of options and caught them in the midst of a one year same as cash deal!

Make SURE you tell whoever you order them from that you are REPLACING exsisting windows, a buddy of mine bought his windows and waited a year to put them in,,,, he had windows for new construction? Apparently they're different....
It'd be nice if someone could have an ORIGINAL THOUGHT once in a while.....

Yup major difference between replacement and new construction. New construction requires the flanges to be attached from the outside (fatal to any existing covering like brick, siding or stonework). Replacement will fit inside the existing opening without disturbing the siding. Attachment is through the sides rather than the outside. Finish casework needs to be addresed too. Ours was included but had it not been talked about, probably would have been a headache in the end. We also opted to have the brick moulding wrapped thereby eliminating any future paint chores. Let me add... they had windows on sale at the time but they were low-end, so we did some homework and went with Lowes anyway. Finally went with Pella with all the bells and whistles which after a while was alphabet soup to me (High R, low UV, big E etc etc). They have no wind infiltration, work smooth as a baby's butt, installation is guaranteed by Lowes, they hauled away the old windows and NO INTEREST FOR A YEAR!!!

Go to Friel Lumber in Queenstown. They will be a big help.
As far as Thompson Creek..."mama said if ya can't say sumthin' nice, don't say nuthin at all." Send me a PM if you want the details.

Anderson 400 series here... HUGE, I repeat H-U-G-E difference between these and the old single panes. Quieter, and the house already feels warmer... oh, and my tax man says they will add a few dollars to my pocket in the spring, too... Bought from Friel Lumber, very happy.

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize there would be a different price by stating "replacement windows", I thought that was a given that they were all replacement windows.
I just hate feeling like I'm being taken advantage of when someone comes to your house and tries to sell you something. I have no idea with windows if I'm getting a resonable deal or being taken to the cleaners. So, that is why I was hoping I could find a company where the salesperson doesn't get a commission so they aren't just trying to talk you into the highest thing.
Anyway, I will definitely check to see if anyone has any 0 percent finance specials happening.. that would help.
If anyone else has any any good info please let me know. Thanks again, Lynn.

I just bought new windows from a company out of Baltimore. The sales rep lives on the island (Tower Gardens) No pressure, no pain, and a lot of information. The total came to just about half of what Thompson Creek was going to charge. Very happy with the decision. Link below: clearchoice-usa.com/

Went local last year and got screwed. The Jeld-Wen windows were great, but the company was a bunch of liars that didnt make good on their commitments. Luckily Chesapeake Sash and Door are out of business now, so hopefully they are not doing it to anyone else.
Buying more windows this year and going through Church Hill Lumber. Call Tom Doyle for help.
