Does anyone know when the cross island trail will be finished and where they plan on running it to link it from KI Estates to Terrapin Park?

No clue about timing for the linking of the two trails. Best thing is to call Parks and Rec and ask them. 410-758-0835. I haven't been down to the South Island Trail yet, how is it?

The south trail isn't as nice (scenic) as the main one, but it's still very nice. Most of it is really a glorified sidewalk for Route 8, but that's very needed. I hope that they bring it up past me soon because I know a lot of people in my area that would use it. It would connect the elementary school and new middle school with the park and give safe access to everything along 8. Getting it across 50 is another thing though. I can't figure out how they are going to do that one.

I'm sure they'll build a bridge like the one that crosses Rt 2 South of Edgewater.

Since I'm not one of the homeowners that now has an asphalt path across land I've maintained for the state for years, I think it's good to see people using the trail...
On the other hand, I can sure understand the frustration those homeowners felt.

A lot of the homeowners became too acustomed to the extra property. They know where their property ended and where the county property started. My kids really enjoy the path (south end of the island) and I have walked it many times. I like the fact it is not like a sidewalk close to the highway, but placed further away. I think it adds value to all our communities.

My family loves the Cross Island Trail. We use it all the time in spring, summer, and fall. We also love the Terrapin park trail. Haven't checked out the South Island trail yet - but have driven alongside parts of it. It looks nice, although not as wooded/country as the other ones.
When we moved here, we considered a house that has the trail going literally through it's backyard. I saw it as an asset, but other family members saw it as a problem. Didn't end up buying the house, but still go past it all the time on our bikes and I'd certainly rather have that in my yard than the squealing wheels of the teenagers and redneck trucks we have now.
