I visited the new Blue Water Tavern on Saturday for the first time and loved it! I favor smaller bars/restaurants where you can actually carry on a conversation with friends AND get great food. We had both.
My husband and I live on the other side of the bridge but I can see us making the trip over just to come here. I had fried pickle chips for the first time in my life and LOVED them. I also had the Crab Bomb entree and thought I had died and gone to heaven. Nothing but jumbo lump crab in a bowl with great seasonings.
I also loved that we could sit outside at the tables (it was beautiful out on Sat) and have a drink and a smoke. I am a smoker but agree that it should be a choice and am glad to see the owners made the decision to be smoke-free inside the restaurant.
I had never visited Meghans before, but I can see how Blue Water has the makings to be a great neighborhood bar (and shoot, we don't even live in the neighborhood!).
Cheers to the new owners and good luck!
Nik

We are the new owners of Blue Water Tavern. Sarah and Joe Garner. We live in Bay City, We too were looking for a place of our own after having been through some crazy times in working for people. We made a run at love point cafe but too many ties on the owners part. We saw Castle Marina after love point fell through and made a go of it. We used to frequent Meighan's as well and enjoyed it greatly. We are not affiliated with Hemingway's. It's just us, we love to cook and drink and the high end dinning scene got too snobby for us so we left. My little sister and her husband joined us from Ireland to help with the front of the house. We did sign a good "lock in" lease so we hope to be here for awhile. Stop by, enjoy some food, have a drink share your ideas and help us put together a cool neighborhood tavern. Joe and Sarah, PS yes we found out that there is a ghost, she is very cool and her name is Sarah, no relation. Holly Cooking! Good luck guys! BTW Rich is looking for advertisers here!

A smoke-free bar? It's a little out of the way for me, but I'll be going there. Has anything been changed on the inside from when it was Meighan's?

Hi there, I am a fewllow kent islander and stumble across this site from time to time. Today i decided to become a member and participate in some discussions, this one in particular. People on this forum are blowing my mind with this thread bashing hemingway's over and over again. First off, I have heard that they doubled megan's rent to push them out because they may be loosing Hemingway's. How does this even come close to making sense if all they did was replace them with new tenents? Second, who has ever even heard from a credible source on why they were puched out? All I see here is hear say and a one sided argument. Imagine a tenent that is late on rent over and over and over again until you reach a point that you say if you continue to be late I am going to double your rent BUT if you can pay on time then your rent will stay the same. After this the tenent continues to be late, so the the rent is doubled. How does this make you the bad guy? ok this is enough for one post. All i am saying is there are two sides to every story and i think that it is wrong of the people on this forum to pin steve and biana as bad people when most of you dont have any clue what you are talking about. wake up, you people are adults not in high school.

NEK - those of us who know the owners of Meighans know better.
Do you know what the circumstances were? If so, enlighten us or have the Aranz's get on the forum and respond with their side of the story.
I think we'd all be interested in hearing their version, though doubt they'd respond.

they probably havnt responded due to the fact that they would see so much resistance. There seems to be a following of people on here that just bash them. To me, and many others they are great, stand-up, honest people. All i am saying is that there is a lot of hear say and that there are two sides, thats all.

Understand what you're saying, and in reality the issue is between the Aranz's and the Meighans owners. However, just as you say the Aranz's are stand-up people, I and many others who know the owners of Meighan's feel the same about them. It might help clear the air if they responded, or maybe not.

Nek:
Some of the people here ARE the credible sources you are looking for.
Does it make sense for them to push Meighan's out if all they did was replace them with other tenents? No, not really, but no one on here, even the credible sources, ever accused them of making sense. What you have read here is what transpired. I believe you will find a first-person account if you bother to look closely enough.
"...most of you dont have any clue what you are talking about. wake up, you people are adults not in high school." I, and others here, DO have a clue, how about you? I really wish this was high school, then none of it would matter as much as it does.
