Are they owned by Hemmingways? After the fornication that Hemminigway's did to Meighan's, I wouldn't set foot in that place.

Ditto!
I'm with you guys; mu opinion is the food and service was always lacking at Hemingways, and obviously they're all about the $$. I thought originally the group that bought out Bay Bridge Marina was the problem with the Hemingways site there, but my opinion has definitely changed after what they did to Meighan's.

If I remember correctly Meghan's rented their place of business from Hemingway's and for reasons I don't know, Hemingway's raised the rent for Meghan's so high that they had to shut down. A lot of people loved Meghan's as it was a one of a kind Irish bar, unlike shi**y Sheridan's. By the way did anyone know that the ghost that has supposedly haunts the restaurant was named Sarah?

From what I heard on this site, Hemmingway's forced Meighan's out when they thought that they were going to be booted out of their current location at the Bay Bridge. They forced out Meighan's by raising the rent to some crazy figure that they new the owners couldn't pay. Now that they have borrowed time in their old location, I guess that they rented the space out again. I hope that the new owners signed a long-term lease with a lot of lawyers present. Meighan's was the first place that I can think of that was a success in that location, which is why it's so sleazy of H'ways to do what they did. Does anyone know more on this?

Native's about got it. I thought someone else owned the building before Hemingway's bought it... regardless, the owners of Hemingway's raised the rent on Meighan's to force them out - after promising not to.

Do we know this as truth... or were the owners of Meighen's just telling people that?
Like when the owner of L & L we and told people that Wendy's was spitting in her food, but they really weren't in an attempt to draw business?

Well, then, since we're really on the topic...
ANYONE know if Meighan's will be re-opening? I hope? Someone, please? I really miss that place - it was kent Island's own little Cheers.

Hey everybody! I don't get into the forum much, but I was surprised to see that there was a thread on Meighans/Hemingways.
Meighan and I truly appreciate all of the support we have gotten during the time we were open AND since we have closed. Let me take a minute to assure everyone, that what you have heard about Hemingways raising the rent on us is absolutely the truth. Why they did what they did is still unknown to us. They were very difficult to deal with and we called their bluff. I think that they were thinking they had us between a rock and a hard place and we would just agree to any increase they dreamed up. Needless to say, we moved on.
We ARE looking for a new location but it has been difficult. We are looking for a place to buy. We will not rent again and have the same thing happen yet again. It needs to be the right place, not just any place. Please send any suggestions our way!
Again, thanks for all of your support and remember, it's not the new owners fault that Meighans is no longer there, it is strictly a Hemingways and Steve and Biana Arentz issue.

All,
I'll vouch for Kevin's sincerity and honesty. Meighan and Kevin are straight-up good people that I've known for 4 years. As you can tell by his comments, he's not one to constantly trash someone though they slighted him.

How about buying the place where Love Point Cafe used to be?

Native,
Having frequented both places, I don't believe it could handle the crowd or the parking necessary. I can't say for sure, but I believe Meighan's at times brought in 60+ (a guess) customers at times.

they could redo the love point cafe/bar & isn't there a place next door to the bar that was for sale/lease a while back? what happened w/ that - is there someone there now? Then they'll have almost that whole section where the cafe was.

Everyone,
I read through most of the post for this thread. I went to the restaurant (BTW it is Blue Water Tavern) this weekend. I spoke to the owner, I believe they are a husband and wife. And I am almost certain they have nothing to do with Hemingways. They live in Bay City.
The food was excellent and the atmosphere was great. They had two plasmas and two other smaller LCDs. One of the things I liked was there is no smoking in the restaurant but you can smoke outside on the patio and drink out there too. I smoke but my wife doesn't but it was nice to not have a smoky bar to burn your eyes. Give it a try if you get a chance, we will definitely be heading back.

We are the new owners of Blue Water Tavern. Sarah and Joe Garner. We live in Bay City, We too were looking for a place of our own after having been through some crazy times in working for people. We made a run at love point cafe but too many ties on the owners part. We saw Castle Marina after love point fell through and made a go of it. We used to frequent Meighan's as well and enjoyed it greatly. We are not affiliated with Hemingway's. It's just us, we love to cook and drink and the high end dinning scene got too snobby for us so we left. My little sister and her husband joined us from Ireland to help with the front of the house. We did sign a good "lock in" lease so we hope to be here for awhile. Stop by, enjoy some food, have a drink share your ideas and help us put together a cool neighborhood tavern.
Joe and Sarah,
PS yes we found out that there is a ghost, she is very cool and her name is Sarah, no relation.
Holly Cooking!

The lose of Meighan's is a shame, They are one of the reasons that we picked that area to buy. We have always liked the idea of a walk to cheers type bar. As for Sarahs. Anything to do with Hemingways should be pushed off the island and left to drown in the bay....
