Has the violence quieted at the New Rams Head Inn? With all the talk of The Island Inn being a bruiser bar I was wondering if the same people are now at The Rams Head and still being violent. Just looking for a spot close to home to stop by once in a while without getting a chair to the head...lol

I've only been there 3 times, but to me it definately seems to be an improvement as far as the crowd goes. Some dreggs are still in there, but nothing like it was before the name change.

We were at Big Bats tonight on the bar side and the crowd was rough. My hubby saw a drug deal in the bathroom at 9PM, cam out and grabbed me, and we left. We love BB's and it sucks that the low life crowd came there. Hopefully it was a fluke.

That is awful! I'm hearing more each day about the drugs around here. One thing we all agree on (on this board), is that we love to live in an area where you don't have to worry about getting mugged at the grocery store. We have enjoyed a very low crime rate and I'm worried that this drug issue is going to change that.
What can we do (as citizens) to help fight this drug problem? Not to get back on the Sheriff topic, but what is local law enforcement doing to fight this?

For starters maybe report the drug deal at BB's to at least the manager, if not the law. By leaving the place the druggies won that round.
People have to stand up instead of turning their back.

The last few times that I've been into Big Bat's I've noticed a lot of scary types in there. Maybe that's where the old Island Inn crowd ended up. Hopefully Big Bat's will do something to nip that in the bud, or the fights will start happening there now. I know that I'm not going back there for a while.

We were in there last weekend, no scary types seen by me.......
If the good guys STOP going in there, that's all that will be left...

I think bchevy has a point...the way to fight this is to keep law enforcement informed and not let them take what we like the most..if you like big bats that much stand up for it by letting management know what is going on so they can take the steps to rid their establishment of trouble makers...I am new to the Island but the reason I came here is because the low crime rate and safe environment for my children..

The local law enforcement is VERY busy giving BS traffic tickets to locals, how can you expect them to make time for "other" issues?

Getting off topic, but...
Seems a theme around here. Not sure if it's a set of people who've recently moved in or what...
I had to confront a kid in the street the other day about speeding in a residential neighborhood. Kid was clearly tuning his little POS car and then winding it out in 1st gear, often second, and getting into third...
His response? "Dude what's your problem, I'm dialing in my car?!"
Thing is, everyone's afraid of a fight/argument/lawsuit etc... Ruined my day to have to confront someone like that, but there are kids, dogs, people walking/jogging, and this little a$$hat decided he was going to tune his POS in the neighborhood?
Funny thing was the little dork tried to speed away but stalled the car instead... I tried not to laugh at him.
I guess I'll be alone (everyone else afraid of ??), but I'm going to start confronting them, and their parents, until they move away or they give up. I worry it could become physical - not for my physical safety, that's not in question, but for my legal security. Some stupid kid decides to throw a punch, and I'm facing a lawsuit no matter what if I respond.
I grew up over here, and learned respect. These people moving in don't know what that is. There will become a point when decent people say "forget it" and leave. Why not fight back instead?

I completely agree with you. The total lack of consideration and respect puzzles me. The econo-cars with that noisy muffler on them, the loud motorcycles, the loud thumping car stereos... Since the county is big on making money from writing traffic tickets, why not impose a noise ordinance of some kind then?

The parents now don't make their kids respect anyone including them. Did anyone see the damage at the BP gas station (I think) and Berrang's used cars? 3 school buses were vandalized, a bunch of used cars, a boat, and the side of the used car shed. It makes me sick. The only thing these hoodlums will get is a slap on the hand, if they even catch them.

I was at Big Bat's on Saturday night for a bit and when I left (around 10PM), somebody spray painted a 'gangsta' type word on the drivers side window of my car. It wasn't regular spray paint, but something that I was able to wipe off after only a few minutes. None the less, if I would have caught the prankster there would have been trouble. I don't think that it was anyone from the bar, but probably kids that were hanging out at the Shore-Stop. I ended up leaving Big Bat's due to the crowd that night too. Sketchy, to say the least. Steve's a good guy and I can't see him putting up with that for long.

That makes me mad about your window even if it did wipe off. These parents aren't teaching their children to treat people the way they want to be treated. I would love to put a gate up to our community. I am so worried that our area is going to start going down hill.

Well, anyone care to guess what caused this seeming lack of (parenting) respect?
Anyone think it's because we've made kids the sacred cows?
If people start standing up, like my parents and their friends/neighbors used to... I can't help but think the little f$@#ers will back off. I'm going to be sending a letter to our neighborhood association requesting the names and phone numbers of other, like-minded men willing to confront these kids and their parents. A group of 5 or 6 pissed off grown men on the doorstep of a select few homes may be adequate to intimidate the lazy bastard parents into doing thier job and controlling their kids.

iI always seems to be these "skater" kids as they call themselves these days. Little do they know skating inst cool. They blatantly disobey the posted No Loitering and No Trespassing signs.
Over in the Business Park where I work we have Private Property signs up and No Skateboarding signs, yet they still skateboard and destroy the benches. I hate kids.

Matt: Good idea, but no. Parents who have worthless kids are worthless themselves. Probably drunk with their new boyfriend/girlfriend after being newly divorced or highed up.

Get the tag number of the car and all the cops. Lots of knuckleheads speeding down Rt 8, turn around and speed back up Rt 8. Myself and my neighbors call when we feel that we have a problem. During the summer, when the knuckleheads are speeding up and down, a ball conveniently rolls out in front of the car. We wave and they understand that kids play in the area.
As for the skateboarding, why don't they just reopen the skateboard park? BTY GBM, skating is cool. Anything to get the kids outside. I still shred.

There was one tearing up the streets today around 3:00 pm...

Sadly, there are bunches of kids out there in many communities doing what we're seeing. This was a different car in a different place.
We've tried the "legal channels" - i.e. calling police, but invariably hear that they'll try to send someone down, but are too busy... they'll show up, if at all, hours after the kid gets bored and goes home.
