(WNAV) -- Maryland lawmakers are pushing to extend speed camera coverage from residential areas to construction work zones. Tickets would be automatically issued to anyone going 12-miles per hour over the speed limit. House Minority Leader Anthony O'Donnell says advocates stress the cameras will increase public safety and accumulate tens of millions of dollars in revenue. The current proposal is the second from state legislators wishing to slow down motorists. This time around there will be no commission for venders on the amount of tickets the system writes.

While the vendor income may not be commision based, the bill is probably still more about generating revenue than about safety.
