North Korea launched a missle today and here is the Presidents response:
"Words must mean something. The world must stand together to prevent the spread of these weapons. Now is the time for a strong international response. North Korea must know that the path to security and respect will never come through threats and illegal weapons," he said.
I just hope he remembers that the UN had 17 sanctions in place for Iraq and they meant nothing. Saddam just kept killing his people by the thousands while he thumbed his nose at the world and it "sanctions"

The Iraq situation is not a good example here.
Ironic that this president would say "Words must mean something." Also ironic that he would say "..the path to security and respect will never come through threats.." while threatening to impose sanctions. The man needs a better speech writer.
So far it looks like N. Korea won. They said they would send up the satellite, and they did. They warned the world not to shoot it down, and the world didn't. They claim the satellite made it into orbit - what else would they say? We claim it fell into the ocean - what else would we say? I haven't heard about N. Korea in quite a while - now it's the biggest story on the news.

Who are we to tell anyone they can't have nuclear weapons when we have more than enough to destroy the entire world? We are the only nation to use nuclear weapons on civilians, and we are not going to give ours up. If you were the Koreans what would you do?

And the reason we used nuclear weapons? Perhaps that little thing called Pearl Harbor which killed thousands of innocent civilian and unform people and which also initiated carnage in the Pacific region for 5 years. Nuclear or not, killing is killing and that fact that we used it to end a war instead of using one to start a war is a huge difference. In the same vein, I guess just because a person goes around threatning to kill people, has demonstrated on several occassions that he has a propensity for violence, should not stop him from getting a permit to carry a gun also. Unbelievable

I get the logic of "who are we to tell him", but there is also the danger of ignoring the problem until it blows up in your face....and in this case that could be literally.

deelightful.......You made my point. Justification in in the eye of the beholder. Are you advocating the taking of M.S.P. Cpl. Geisler's hand gun for threatening to shoot Innocent people?....You live in a glass home and throw stones.

Alrighty now, back to North Korea......
China is key to solving this problem. They are enablers of another communist regime and could put a stop to NK's ambitions if they wanted to. But, they don't.
China long term will be the real threat to us and we are making that happen ourselves. I just don't get why we have the relationship we do with China.

Yeah, I know.......and we are fueling their economy* with our constant buying of "Made in China" goods. *communist country, undermines US interest in global affairs, 3 billion people, large eco polluter, 1 billion man army, tainted products, cyber espionage, growing military presence, human rights violater.........did I mention that they are a communist country. You know, it's hard to avoid made in china stuff though. But, I do look before making a purchase and try to find alternatives when I can, even if it may cost a little more. What makes me sad, I needed a pulley belt for my John Deere tractor. Went to the Deere dealer in Queen Anne, wouldn't you know.....right there on the belt "Made in China". WTF

Unfortionatly that belt would probably be twice as much if it said "made in USA" on it. Or your just now paying enough for Deere to make a 3/400 % profit. If they made it in the US might only make 100% profit.

Nice to know that the day AFTER the launch of this missile, Obama, the brainiac that he is, cuts off funding for our Missile Defense System. Thats smart.

WTF I've been trying to avoid buying things if I can only afford to buy them from human rights offenders. But I have the luxury of working from home, so I have very low material needs.

Tax the hell out of it on everything that is imported from other countries. It will offset our higher labor costs and people will buy American again. They do it to our goods.
