Madoff got a 150 year sentence today. Do you feel this was a just sentence? He is 71 and can be expected to live, maybe, another 20 years. Is 150 really necessary in your opinion?

Madoff needed the help from many people to keep his scheme going. Not to mention the protection of those entrusted by the public to prevent these crimes from occurring in the first place...Madoff is the only one charged with a crime. WHY?... God bless America - Push 1 for English.

The reason for the 150 years is to insure he never gets out. He deserves to die in jail. What he did was horrible. He didn't just invest poorly, he swindled those people for his own selfish purposes. What a pig! I think his accountant was also charged in this. There are a lot more people with knowledge that need to share the cell next to him.

His entire family benefitted from his affairs, why shouldn't they suffer the same fate as the people he swindled?

I agree 100%.... Barb And it appears that justice was served as far as Mrs. Madoff was concerned. But in all honesty, why is it, when it was brought to the SEC's attention in regards to Madoff several years ago, and no action was taken then, allowing Madoff to collect a few billion more, why arem't the government officials being prosecuted? Did they not aid Madoff in his scheme by their reluctance to do a full investigation?

The SEC started investigating Madoff about 15 years ago. Seems like there would be plenty of candidates to choose from. Of course any Congressional investigation run by Conyers or Waxman would have about an eight year limitation.
