Donna - I agree with you - except one thing: Smoking doesn't just harm the smoker. It also harms anyone within breathing distance. Nothing is worse than going out to have a good time and having your eyes burn and water from smoke, your throat hurt and get scratchy from smoke, and your clothes, hair, purse, etc. stink from smoke. If people want to smoke - let them do it in their own home or yard (hopefully not around their kids!) but I don't want to have to endure it when I'm spending my hard earned money to enjoy an evening out.

Bottom line-don't go to bars if you don't like the smoke-Talbot and Montgomery are smoke-free but until Queen Anne's is stay out of the places that are not-the people on here who don't like the smoke don't seem like the people who would frequent Babes or Island Inn or No place-but the Jetty is the same so is Big Bats-so is Kentmorr-so i suggest if you are going out just to drink-then perhaps you should do it in your home or backyard where you have total control over the smoke-becasue as of right now you don't in these establishments and you know it before you head out so two choices- -stay home or deal-you know most people who smoke know it's unintelligent-unfortunately it's a BAD habit-and unless they are blowing it in your face while you eat-there's not much you can do about it except stay home and hope QAC becomes smoke-free it's on the way i'm sure-but not yet-

You know something, if all of you people (Donna, Sarah, Jerry) are so smart then why in the hell are you going into bars around here while knowing the whole time that you are inhaling second hand smoke. You can preach to me all you want about how and why I am so dumb for doing what I do but please stop being so hypocritical because every time you walk into a bar full of smoke, you might as well be smoking also. If you don't like it then stay out! And Jerry, you had better watch your mouth because there is no one in this world that tells me what I deserve. What gives you the right to wish cancer or death on anyone? I don't do it to you and I'd appreciate it if you did not do it to me. If you've got anything to say to me then please feel free to talk to me in person.

I am a smoker and wouldn't mind if they banned smoking in bars and resaurants. I try to be aware of other people who don't smoke and try very hard to be nice about it! But there are people out there that aren't so nice about it.....so yes I support it whole heartedly!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D

Sorry if I want to go out and enjoy my evening without having to smell your stink, Native! No reason why you guys can't step outside to smoke then come back in.
Things are changing around here - get used to it!

Dear Administrator,
I think the time has come to give Native a "time out" on all the forums. If you go thru most of the controversial forums on this site, it appears that Native is always present and is the INSTIGATOR. Unfortunately, his attitude makes for the rest us trying to have a decent conversation of exchanging ideas a harsh experience. I have decided that if Native continues with his loathe criticism and percolating dreadful comments, many of us will drop off contributing and find other forums.
Please see what you can do for the majority of us, who have made QAC our home despite the years we have lived here, our ethnic background or economic makeup.
Dear Native, by the many negative replies you have had on all the forums, I think I counted some 50, you either need to learn how to channel your negativity or find a hobby. I believe you live on this site- everybody needs a break from you. Your devil icon gives you away!

Paul, You are really getting on my nerves with all of your whiny crying crap. Look, this is a public forum and the last time I checked I did live in the USA and I do have the right to freedom of speech. So if you can’t deal with what I’m saying then go to another forum because I promise you, you won’t be missed. Without people like me there would be a one sided opinion about this Island and it would be run by people like you that fart sunshine all day about what this place is turning into because of well……… people like you. So thanks for listening and I’m sorry that my devil icon scares you so much but I won’t be changing it because it is a cartoon devil and your comment about it was very immature just like your tattling and elementary-like disposition.

What it comes down to is infringement on non-smokers civil rights...we have the right to choose whether we want to inhale smoke or not...smokers choose to and to tempt their fate with cancer..we choose not to...but in a closed public area they are forcing their choice on us by forcing us to breathe 2nd hand smoke..why can't they just go outside and light up...is it that much trouble...it's all about respect for others...and yourself...

You also have every right to go to a non-smoking establishment if you would like. I haven't seen many places out there that do not have a non-smoking section. People know smoking exists and has existed for 1000's of years now it has carried over into society and public areas. Some people choose to smoke and some don't but everybody knows where it exists and where it doesn't. So if someone doesn't care for the smoke in a place where smoking is o.k. they should make their own decision to go elsewhere. I’m sure you wouldn’t catch someone who smokes going out of his way to visit a non-smoking restaurant or bar. I mean people shouldn’t be so ignorant to think that walking into a bar shouldn’t involve seeing or being around people that smoke. I am not trying to be a smart a** but that is just the way that it has always been and still is in most places.

Native,
Perhaps you would be so kind as to provide a list of non-smoking bars in the area.

I can't stand that some smokers think that they have more rights than non-smokers do and that non-smokers shouldn't go to bars or go to bars that are 20 minutes from their houses to avoid smoke. Do you realize how ridiculous and selfish that is? Bars are made to have fun and socialize at and everyone should be able to do that close to home without having to breathe in second-hand smoke. I smoke when I drink and so do a lot of my friends and we all would love for QA county to be smoke free. We have no problem stepping outside so that those who choose not to smoke do not have to threaten their health because we do. Sure a non-smoker can go to a bar in Talbot County, or stay home, but would you do that if the situation was turned around? Would you be willing to do the previous things mentioned if bars were smoke free around the Island (even outside) and the only place you could go to have a drink , a cigarette, and to socialize was a bar in Talbot County or would you just stay home so you could do all the drinking and smoking you wanted by yourself? I seriously doubt it. Those solutions are so easy for you to come up with because you are in the easy position, things are your way at the moment. The point here is simple - smokers will have a choice if the bars become smoke free - they can step outside. Non-smokers don't have that kind of choice right now. Oh yeah I forgot - unless they want to be non-sociable and stay home or drive 20 minutes out of their way to Talbot County where none of their friends live and pay for a 20 minute cab ride there and home. Unless of course they drive themselves and get a DUI or drive themselves and don't drink (which defeats the whole purpose of going to a bar). All of that just so you don't have to pick your a** off of a bar stool and go outside to smoke. I'm sure you will have some ridiculous come back as you do for everyone else, but I am right and you know it.

What a bunch of nothing. did you actually READ what you wrote before you hit the post reply button? So do you have more rights? Bars will have smokers until there's a ban, get used to it. And I don't need a bar to be sociable. I figured that out when I was 18 and could go into a bar. Doesn't DWI, or DUI sort of trump any driving to any bar? And lets not forget the Drive through liquor stores..... I'm not even sure what side you're on....Sure you're right, but about what? This one needs a lock or something, I don't smoke, and I DON'T CARE!

ok I gotta ask.... if you don't like smoke then why are you going to the bars and complaining?? it's what people do there, always have. Why would you want to enter into a land that has existed for years in it's present state and all of the sudden deam it unfit? wow...does this sound like so many other posts on this site?!! you don't like KI as it is ? leave... you don't like smoke filled bars ?? don't go.
