I had heard that it is going to be a vineyard, a convention center, a Hyatt or Marriott, a restaurant, a pub. A friend of mine who works at Chesapeake Bay Beach Club, told us that they need a nice hotel for the weddings.
I would love a Houston's Restaurant! I miss their spinach dip and club salad so....

Is this the project that the COUNTY is putting together? Didn't they get that land after they ran WalMart out?

I went to the meeting tonight. Interestingly enough, it does not appear to be the builder who is the problem - it appears that the county is the problem in this situation.
The county will be leasing this property to the builder and could therefore incorporate certain provisions into the lease agreement that would require the builder to abide by certain conditions. It appears that the county is choosing to not do that in this situation.
The building plans look to be a hotel (Marriott was mentioned), 2 restaurants (one would be a family waffle-style house and the other would be a steakhouse owned by the same gentleman that owns R's), a vineyard, "upscale" retail shops, and some other miscellaneous places that I would not be interested in frequenting. The builder stated that this project would be great for the community because everyone would have access to the Vineyard project, but my thoughts are that it will be useless to those who do not have a ton of money lying around to spend at these places. He also emphasized that he wanted the project to reflect Kent Island's heritage; however I did not see any concrete examples of how that would be made to happen.
I did like the "green" and LEED aspect of the building plans - pervious concrete and geothermal units. It's the more expensive way to go, but it is more sustainable in the long run.

if the walmart project got pushed out because of, for one, the traffic flow problem, what the heck is THIS going to do? there was a sewer issue as well, as i recall. this will generate much more--so how is that flying, so to speak? there's a fetid smell of something green--$$$$.

If it absolutely has to happen, this is a better way to go but don't let them use this as a justification for the project. By any calculation there is more permeable surface now than there will ever be with a development.

Did they mention anything about a pedestrian bridge? I remember seeing it mentioned somewhere...but I am slightly confused as to where it will be. Are they talking about over rt 50 to Terrapin park?

Yes, a citizen asked the builder about the pedestrian bridge and the builder deferred to the county representative, who said that the project of building a pedestrian bridge over Route 50 would require far much more money than the county has available to spend on it.

There were 3 companies that made proposals. The Vineyard did not include the pedestrian bridge.
