After reading about the Sullivan family that lost everything, both here and in The Bay times today, I had a thought. We are always selling, giving away, etc. here on KIO. We have local hardware stores, we have local builders, local furniture stores, etc. I know it sounds far fetched, but our community is a very caring community. Is anyone interested in helping out the Sullivan family? We can contact Extreme Make Over Home's TV show, and explain the story and with our supporting community we could all pitch in. Just a thought. Any suggestions ? I think we could show the US what an incredible community we have here! -cg

First, let me say that I feel for the Sullivans and what they have lost in the fire; fortunately the family was safe and hopefully the pets will survive their injuries. From what I've read, the personal affects such as family pictures, documents, etc. were things that probably can not be replaced.
With that said, I understand the good intentions regarding this thread. However, usually the Extreme Make Over is more geared toward those less fortunate. I don't know the background of the Sullivan's, however, from what I've read and pictures I've seen, other than the fire, they probably wouldn't be considered less fortunate. They probably have home owners insurance and I would assume a decent income. It is the more personal things that can't be replaced they will miss the most.
My reason for this response is that there are probably more unfortunate folks in the area that may not have the support required for a place to live, or to replace a home that's not inhabitable.
Don't get me wrong, as I believe a community should assist it's resident's in a time of need - I just don't believe the Extreme Make Over fits the bill here if the Sullivan's have homeowners insurance, etc.
Just my two cents.

Good points...I have to say I agree with you. Hopefully all their relatives will get together and copy their pictures to replace some of the lost ones for this family... Barb

also--that does not happen overnight. it would not give them the immediate help they need.

Does anyone know if they need a washer and dryer. I am getting new ones, and my old ones still work.
