God Bless America, and the Constitution. Censorship is UN-American

A couple of questionable insinuations here: Rich isn't the only one who deletes things and there is a big difference between tidying up the board and censorship.
Rich is much more patient with some of these posts than I am. If you want to accuse someone of deleting things, please don't leave me out.

I haven't deleted anything of yours Pete, not sure what you are talking about.
If it is about the thread about Terrapin Park where I said any Sheriff posts will be deleted ASAP, then here's why I said that: It is a thread about cleaning up the park and not a thread about the Sheriff being this, that, or anything else. The few people on here that keep bringing up the Sheriff and slamming him make this site look like it's full of wing-nuts and I try and keep the bitter ex-employee / rival sounding stuff to a minimum. Campaigning is one thing, but the bashing (others - not from you) is a huge problem. We've talked about this before. As for censorship - this is not a freedom of speech thing. I own this website. Taxes don't pay for it or any other public money. I pay for it and my advertisers pay for it. It's a private company, not a public forum in that anyone can come on here and spout off and be protected by "free speech" laws. That is why "Pro-Boards" who this forum is run by, has rules. They don't want to be sued. It's why I have them host the forum, so I don't get sued. It is why I have my own set of rules - so I don't get sued, and so that I don't scare off advertisers who are keeping this site alive with their ad money. If anyone doesn't like that - start your own forum. There are free services out there that you can sign up for and have at it.
This forum has probably the least amount of rules and enforcement of any other sounding board around which keeps it alive and going, but the Sheriff crap is a huge problem and while you (Pete) have been fine with posting your platform and reasons for running, others take it to a bad place that causes problems for me from my advertisers who support this site. That is why I said "no Sheriff posts" on the Terrapin Park post.
I'm pretty far from Stalin on here, I just have to keep the interests of my advertisers in mind when reading posts otherwise there will not be any money to run this site.

Good statement, good point, and glad you posted it Rich.
Is this the reason the archive in the politico forum only goes back to Jan. 2009? I could see some advertisers being turned off by some of the post that were made in the fall concerning the general election.

I think that the Politico Forum was started in January '09, otherwise it would go back further. It does seem older than that though... Let me see what I can find out from Pro-boards on the actual archive policy.

Rich Fisher & falgar25......I have no problem playing by the rules, and I am aware that the forum is a private business. You have the right to take your bat and ball and go home...Maybe a short e-mail explaining the deletions would be nice....We all know that some growing up with replies would help in your advertising bottom line. Therefore when I grow up I want to be more like bchevy & shadow1.......falgar25 - The burglar may say say he was just tidying up your house, but it's still a burglary....Pete Richter 109 Emory Circle Stevensville 410-643-0286

Pete - The last thing I deleted was a personal attack against you. I would offer to put it back for all to see but I don't agree with personal attacks. Before you shoot that burglar you might want to make sure he isn't from the gas company or the fire station trying to save your home.

The last thing I deleted was a hijack, and a reply to the hijack, and I mentioned it in my post. your hijack was nothing that you haven't posted 20 or 30 or more times in numerous places all over this forum. Keep just a little bit more on topic.
MB: it's a neat button, but sure stirs people up.

Deep Sea and to whom it may concern..........My mission is Justice. What government did to me and my family can also happen to you. I admit I'm from the old school, and I'm proud of it. I was trained by Americans that charged the beaches at Iwo Jima, walked out of Chosin Reservoir with Chesty Puller, and survived the great depression. These men did not get shook up over a seat belt violation. They championed the little man, and the Constitution. Thank god that Rich Fisher has this forum where the little guy can voice his opinion free of cost. I Will BE THE Sheriff, and no one in this county will be abused by the big shots without a fight from me. This country belongs to us, and it's up to us to save it.

Water Lady .... You and I are on the same page even thought we don't know it. When I see that flag flying over Iowa Jima I think of Police Officer George Hoyt. At 16 George lied about his age and joined the Marines. George hit the beaches of Iowa Jima, and later walked out of Chosin Reservoir with legendary Gen. Chesty Puller. I was a kid of 21 when I worked with Police Officer Hoyt. I respect Police Officer George Hoyt, and so would you. HE quit the Marines and went to the ship yards before becoming a Balto. City Police Officer. George would say, " if they ain't gong to fight to win, they don't need me". This country needs more men like Police Officer George Hoyt. I'm sure you agree.

I am just curious as to if the Island Bay Day folks had to pay the sheriff's office for the sheriff and his deputies to work the Island Bay Day Event, being that it was not an offical government event! Also if there is an event where alcoholic beverages are served, isn't there a conflict of intrest having law enforcement persons IN UNIFORM on the grounds? Again, I am just a tax paying county resident with questions as to wastefull county spending! Please don't delete my post!

The Sheriff's Dept was at Bay day last year with an Education booth and some kids stuff....my son got a deputy star and some coloring books (all about the law)...So maybe that is why the Deputies were at this bay day...so they could pass out stuff for little kids. My son was super thrilled to talk to the man in uniform. They were also Finger Printing the kids...Since it was a community event I don't see what the big deal is...Any kind of education is a good thing. There were lots of vendors and education booths...and animal booths...etc.

Please see my response to this unbelievable statement that you made earlier on the thread regarding the Jetty/Centreville drug busts then deleted. I am sorry if you feel educating the public on the valuable services the police department offers, is a waste of tax money. They have been at church events and other types of community events and they are always willing to take their displays and information to any event that wishes to have them. And yes, Barb, they were there doing what they did for us last year. It really does allow folks to get their kids more familiar with the officers, less afraid of the uniforms and more informed about them. The kids really did enjoy it again (as usual) and even some of the band members got those stars and were wearing them up on the stage! Sheriff Hoffman made a brief visit as did some other police officers from various departments, but unfortunately could not stay for the entire day as they did have to perform their regular duties. It was great to see them all and get a chance to meet them, either again or for the first time I know you enjoy attacking the police at every opportunity adaml. We have all seen and read your litanies. This is just not one you have a valid argument against. So rest your weary little "concerned county resident tax payer" head. They didn't waste a penny of your taxes. As a matter of fact, due to the police being in the nearby area of our event, a crime that was committed was able to be brought to a most satisfactory end. Perhaps now you will want to complain about the other even higher level public officials that were there as well?

Ok - as one of the "Island Bay Day" folks, as you stated - you are treading on thin ice. I will not put up with anyone bashing our charity event or anyone involved with it - period. Sheriff Hoffman was nice enough to be there and that helped us keep any potential trouble makers in check just by his presence. I realize that there are a few yahoos that take every opportunity to bash the Sheriff for what-ever political gains on here which really is not the right thing to do - but if you are going to use our event to do that I absolutely will ban you from here no questions asked. We have worked very hard to make Island Bay Day a success for our charities and I have made it quite clear that anyone who wants to be involved can be, regardless of their background, political affiliations, or anything else. I think that if you ask anyone involved you would see that we have been very fair and that we welcome any involvement from anyone. Island Bay Day was not a drunk fest and the beer and wine area was just a small part of what was going on. Tie this to some anti-Sheriff thing again and you're out. Try me.
