ridiculous sentense for a "crime" where the only victim was himself. He was stupid for doing it but 2 years is way out of line for carrying in NY. Should have been one year with several months suspended.

Maybe give him the responsibility of going to schools and talk about gun safety (after he takes a course himself) He is lucky he didn't blow his balls off...ew... Drunk drivers get less of a sentence ...sigh...

Drunk driving laws are a changing October 1 in the state. Percentages for a DUI stay the same, the penalties are stricter.

He probably will serve about 6 months and then be released.

He probably will serve about 6 months and then be released. 20 months minimum. Compare that to the guy who was just convicted of gun trafficing from a snack food stand in Lexington Market. He got 15 months. This guy sold illegal guns to gang members and Plaxico shoots himself in the leg with his own gun. See how our priorities are screwed up?

i guess an argument could be made that his stupidity could well have injured or killed someone else. anyone know what the law about carrying is in ny? it does seem very punitive, tho.

I still think he will only end up spending 6 months... Remember he has an appeal process, if his lawyers are any good.... I hear ya, on our screwed up priorities.

I don't know the law on it but I heard Ed Norris talking about it and he said 1 year is the norm for carrying a handgun in NY. He thought the 2 year term was unusually harsh. He said they wanted to make an example out of Burress
