Did you know there are people who keep an ailing relative (IE. Dad) out of a nursing home just so they can continue to collect that persons monthly social security/disability check so they can continue to sustain their own income? If they were to put that family member into a nursing home that money would go to pay for that persons nursing home care.
I've heard of an instance with one family member (Mom) is in a nursing home while the other (Dad) was living at home and on the verge of passing away!
This is a despicable practice that I think should be investigated. And to think, these people could be your neighbors!
I remember reading one time this cat in Wisconsin kept her dead Mom on ice for 8 years to continue to get her monthly check.

If by chance you may be referring to us, you are sadly mistaken. My mother is in a nursing home in Rockville. My husband and I take care of my dad. Perhaps the article didn't state what the couple did for their dad. My husband showers, changes depends if not once , twice daily. We are grateful to have help thanks to long term care health insurance. Our care giver helps us out, and gives us a break. I honor any child that takes care of their parents. If you haven't been there, you have NO CLUE! Working is so much easier. BTW, my husband makes more $$$$ than what my dad brings in... I don't know why you even posted this? Perhaps because you know us? ~cg

I"ve seen my parents' generaion care for their parents but I was too young to really appreciate the sacrifice the were making. Now my parents' generation is nearing the age where they may need this level of care and I wonder whether I can make that kind of sacrifice for them. Someday I may need that kind of care and I fear there will be no one willing to make the sacrifice to care for me; I hope I'm wrong.
Once you hit a particular point, growing older means losing more and more. First you start losing family as your parents pass away and you continue losing family as you children move away to live their own lives. A bit older and you start attending the funerals of your friends. Still more friends are lost when they no longer remember you or you no longer remember them. Eventually you may find that the only thing you have left is your freedom and your home, but even those are threatened.
I have seen it, I am seeing it, and I know I will live it in the future: When I near the end of my life I believe I will do anything to be able to live out my last days in dignity and die in my own home.

A lot of us have already, and continue to experience this type of behavior. But Mike? Lets make sure we point fingers at everyone who is involved in this type of horror. stopguardianabuse.org/
