Fall 'Spirited' Family Day, hosted by the Neighbors to the President Consortium (NTPC), will offer Halloween-themed activities throughout the day on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Families are encouraged to get into the spirit of fall and spend the day touring the various cultural sites located around the White House neighborhood and participate in a full schedule of free activities, tours, and gallery talks.
At the U.S. Department of the Interior Museum, learn about local bats and see specimens from the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center and National Museum of Natural History at 1:00 p.m. Make your own spooky bat mobiles and origami bats from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Other NTPC activities include a Halloween scavenger hunt at the Renwick Gallery, candle making and spooky tales at the DAR Museum, carnival mask making at the Art Museum of the Americas, and historic re-enactments at Decatur House. Detailed activity descriptions are posted on each organization’s website and on the NTPC website.
The NTPC is a group of historic sites and museums in the White House neighborhood, with collections of architecture, crafts, decorative and fine arts, and other historical materials. Established in 1987, its members stimulate awareness of the historic and cultural significance of the presidential neighborhood and strive to increase understanding, encourage preservation and foster stewardship of consortium sites. Members include the U.S. Department of the Interior Museum, Art Museum of the Americas, DAR Museum, American Red Cross, Decatur House, Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art and Design, Renwick Gallery, White House, Treasury Building, President's Park/White House Visitor Center, and Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
