I love you GVMike - and yes it's a great place to swim! Unfortunately we are still unable to accept dogs. But, don't get me wrong...I love dogs too!!!! And you And when we lost our beloved Maine Coon a couple years ago, the Vet at Bestgate in Annapolis was the most caring group we have ever dealt with.

If your dog responds well to voice commands, we used to take our dog to the fields out by matapeak elementary and run her back and forth for exercise.(it's just close to the roads so if your dog is not voice/hand controlled too well off leash..might not be a good place to go...... Our other one, is still hardheaded so I am not sure exactly where DH takes him..but they go somewhere every Saturday morning for a 6-8 mile run and then they stop off somewhere and he lets him off leash for about an hour....
For swimming we just walked her down to the beach near our house and hook her to a 100 ft leash and let her go.....(unfortunately she has gone to doggie heaven, and the other dog doesn't like the water..)
There is no "real" emergency vet care on the Island, Annapolis is the closest, for all others we use Chesapeak Vet Clinic and have been very pleased....

Great place to run the dogs is Batt's Neck park during the day. In the evenings, the Piranha football teams are practicing an they play on the weekends.
Also, the dog park is by Bay Side Elementary school and is a fenced in area.

Well, seth, let me add my support for the Emergency Animal Clinic in Annapolis for urgent/emergency care for your dog. Right this very minute my dog is in their care for what we hope to be a positive outcome. The staff there has been wonderful and I have been nothing but impressed with the care and concern they have shown for our dog. I have talked to the vet there twice already this morning...once at 5:42 am and again just about an hour ago. The cost, I suppose is a factor, albeit a small one for us at this moment. The service they are giving and comfort and care they are providing....is priceless.

Seth,
As others have noted, the Emergency Animal Clinic at Bestgate was excellent with our puppy - we thought he pulled a muscle or strained his leg - after testing they diagnosed it as Lyme's disease. They were very thorough and great to deal with.
Our local vet is Dr. Van Horn. She is a mobile vet and can come to your home. She has done a great job with our 13 year old Lab for the last few years.
Speeder -Hope all goes well with your dog!

Welcome Seth ! For off leash areas the dog park is great ! If you are a resident in Bay City, you can get a key from the HOA for the gate at the boat ramp. Our dogs love swimming there, as you can see from the photo. Someone from Animal Resource Foundation (ARF) , just told me yesterday that there is a great dog beach near the Matapeake Pier, off of the beaten path. There are many great vets in the area. We use Dr. Rice in Centreville at Town and Country Animal Hospital. I love for the fact that he gets down on the floor with your dog, pets the dog while giving an exam. Our dogs don't even realize that they are having an exam. He is great for dogs that are weary of the vet's. SG, I pray your beloved dog is going to be fine. They are our 4 legged family members ! -cg Agree ! Love Dr Rice at Town & Country.

As many have already stated here the Emergency Vet Clinic on Bestgate is TOPS, but be prepared to pay. Well worth the care the animal gets though. Something no one has mentioned is if you dont already have some type of Pet Insurance it is so worth the couple $100 a yr to get it. I have 2 dogs & my insurance is with Pet First. You arent nearly as restricted as to how much is allowed for specific care or medical supplies. Also if you have multiple pets, as I do, they share the balance of the insurance coverage. For example I have $12,000 coverage. My lab had bloat & her bill at the 'E' clinic was $3000 up front & $2000 balance. I got 90% back from the insurance. The remaining $7,000 can be used by either dog. If 1 has multiple needs then it can be used there or if the other needs care it can be used there. It has a $50 deductible but Ill tell ya it beats the heck out of having to pay out of pocket. If neither needs medical care I still feel its worth the investment. There is also no age limit up to 10y/o for coverage but if you already have coverage when the animal turns 10 you can cont to be covered. I also have a health plan at Banfield (in PetSmart) which covers routine care etc & also gives me great $$$ breaks. Good luck! As for parks etc it just goes without saying regardless of where you take your canine friend be sure vaccines are up to date as not everyone else does & your pet friend can pick up so many things from the ground from non vaccinated animals, domestic & non. Enjoy!

Try Terrapin Park. Then your dogs and the fisherman can fight for the same spots. Never mind we pick up our dogs crap!
