Has anyone else had an awful experience at Joshua's? I have never had such an upsetting time in my life.

We went there a few months ago...I think in the fall actually. It was ok, but pricey. Menu was pretty short and all full entrees...no sandwiches or light fare. Service was good, but the place was empty.
We have not been back...too much $$$ for our dining budget.

In Centreville, in the old ACME grocery store bldg.
We've been. Food was "ok", nothing to write home about.
But as Bridgegirl said, pretty $$$$

Here it goes: I took my 3 little kids there, thinking it would be fun. I chose the salmon and a strawberry daq! The drink looked like it had been under a heat lamp. It already had two separate liquids that settled. I mentioned that it didn't look good to the waitress. She said to try it and I did. I called her back over and said, "I am so sorry, but I can't drink this. It's runny and way to sweet for me." She says ok and I ask her if I can have something else. She says "YUP!" and I get a soda. The service embarrassed ME! Her attitude stunk and my salmon was raw and cold in the middle. I kindly mentioned it and she replied, "We don't give free meals here." HUH?! I didn't ask for one. Maybe I should have refused to pay for the nasty dinner. She brings the bill and I was charged for both drinks, even though I asked for something instead of it, not even caring about the price difference lost. She said I "consumed" it. I tried it as she told me to. I had already given her my credit card to just get out of there. I told her to please take that charge off my bill since I immediately said that I cannot drink it. She said that I "can't come in and be a taste-tester". Whhaa? I asked for the manager, who ended up being her. I asked for the owner's info and she said she would get him. The guy walks up and says,"What's your problem?!" I share my story, he tells me that they would never make a living if they took back everything that customers don't like. He was loud and said I WILL pay for it and never to come back again!!! His wife grabbed me by my arm as I got up to get my kids. I was shocked and all eyes were on us. She was screaming to get the hell out or she would call the police for trespassing. She had her hand on my arm so tight and cornered me to go out a certain way. My youngest is handicapped and cannot run that fast, nor does she understand the craziness that's happening. She was sobbing and I pulled my arm back and told her not to touch me. It was out of control. They brought my credit card out to me and yelled,"Don't you ever step foot in our restaurant again or you'll go to jail!!!" What is going on in this world that I can't have a nice family meal and not be forced to pay for something I never drank?!

I went with some friends when it first opened. Nothing like that happened thank GOD! I am shocked that happened to you. I can't imagine why anyone would do that to a customer, especially with CHILDREN there. It sounds scary and if it had been me who was being pushed and grabbed while my child was terrified, I don't care who would have been watching, I WOULD have called the police on them. I'm about as threatening as an ant, but IF your story is accurate, then no, I would have had zero problem getting a bit crazy right back-I would LOVE to hear their side of this-if this 100% accurate, I would plaster it all over here.

Yikes, we sure didn't have that experience! In fact a table next to us did send back a drink and were met with the usual "I'm sorry, we will replace that". That is very shocking. Can't imagine they will last with that kind of service!

This story sounds like a lie. I find it hard to believe that anyone in service would act that way, plus I'm almost 100% the owner doesn't have a wife.

This story sounds like a lie. I find it hard to believe that anyone in service would act that way, plus I'm almost 100% the owner doesn't have a wife. I would be disgusted if anyone were to make such a story up, so no, it's not a lie. The waitress was the one who sat us and told me that her husband was the owner/chef. There were many witnesses present, including my three girls. They are five, six, and sixteen years old. My six year old still talks about it since we pass by when going to the grocery store. We stop her from bringing it up since she starts to cry and ask why anyone would kick us out and grab me for no reason. My youngest is Autistic and the waitress also stared when she didn't use utensils. We contacted our credit card company, the Better Business Bureau, and two newspapers. I ran a restaurant (out of state) for eight years, am a public speaker & advocate for those with disabilities, and a moderator at a large site. I have no reason to talk about this other than to make others aware of such awful behavior. By someone not believing what happened shows how outrageous their actions were. It was so irrational that the story sounds ridiculous. I feel sorry for the next customers that experience this. They will be just as jarred and baffled as us.

I apologize but I really don't think that is true. The owner of Joshua's is not married and I've never left there having a bad experience nor have i heard of anyone else having one. The service is always really friendly and helpful and the food's great. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I agree! I can't believe that happened Nordy! The owner is always cordial and friendly to me and my family. I try to bring my family there at least every other week and it's always a spectacular time. The food is amazing! The steak never disappoints and neither does the service. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find a better crab cake in the area than at Joshua's. And I can't say enough about their brunch on the weekends.
If you going during their lunch hours you'll find a plethora of sandwiches and subs. My favorite is the chicken salad sandwich!
Oh and the bar! The bar area is beautiful!
So go check out Joshua's and see for yourself!

I'm surprised.....Every time I have been to Joshua's, the service has been absolutely horrible! The waitstaff appears very uncaring, and SLOW! The last time we were in there (December, I think) it took the waitress 15 minutes just to take our drink order. Several times I have been in there and there has not been a lot of people there, and it still takes 25 minutes to bring our food. I think their food is pretty good, but the service stops me from going back..........

moi, Andy, posting 10 minutes apart, saying the same thing - same person. Probably the owner. Posting as "anonymous" guests. C'mon, you can do better than that.

I've been to Joshua's 4 times since it opened and have always had a good experience. The tuna steak and ribs are great choices.
Nordy, your story is surprising as the owner, Matt, is a decent, unmarried man. He has high standards all around and would definitely not tolerate incidents like the one you're describing. While I won't go as far to say you're lying, I will imply that you have a tendency for hyperbole. If you did in fact have a bad experience at Joshua's, exaggerated libel is not the answer. A simple critique will suffice next time.

Oh yeah, the service.
The service was pretty bad when the restaurant first opened, but they've since trimmed the fat for the most part.

Either there is a new owner or the two people I came in contact with just said they were the owners. The man who came out of the kitchen was tall, slender, in his fifties at minimum, and had thinning hair. The lady had dark hair, maybe a bit younger than him, and short. I ate there a handful of times before that and all of our food was dry, cold, or took a long time. This was quite some time ago so maybe the business has changed hands since last year.

Just wanted to report that 4 of us had lunch/dinner here yesterday. -No one was rude -Service slow but decent (very few cust. bar was closed) -Food -shrimp salad- not whole shrimp but mushed up like shredded and zero flavor--- Old Bay Burger was a well done burger with very little OB on it-I make a FAR better burger in my backyard for less than 7.00! Cknparm sand-yuck-rubbery and gross Cr of Crab-paste- too much sherry- coffee-watery (this alone is reason enough for me!) So, while there was NO sign of any angry, rude personnel, the food will keep me from ever going back there to eat. The bar area looks nice, and for a Sunday game, or rainy day Bloody Mary maybe? Nordy-while your story very well may be true, it seems that with the backlash you received from it, your story changed a bit-you were presenting it as recent at least that's how I took it, until another post indicated it was a long time ago. Incidents of worth good or bad, are always appreciated on here I believe, but let us know that it wasn't yesterday, but in fact a long time ago.

I went there for the first time on Monday. I thought the menu was very broad and contrary to what you all have said, not too expensive at all. I didn't get tugged out the door or yelled at, and I still think this story is exactly that; a story.
