We tried the newly remodeled Hemmingway's last night and it was really good. I haven't been there in a pretty long time, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I ended up knowing some people who work there including the bartender and promotions person. I was told that the chef is sort of new (he was there a long time ago) and that everything is excellent. I trust the people that I know and they wouldn't steer me wrong - and they sure didn't! I had the blackened catfish and crab dip for an appetizer, and the Mrs had crab cakes. The crab dip was loaded with lump crab and had melted cheddar on top - which is how I really like it. Honestly, one of the best that I ever had. My catfish was excellent too. Cooked just right and very full of flavor. The sides were a vegetable medley and rice and both were really good. The crab cake was full of lump and I couldn't see / taste any filler. Very good. After dinner we went downstairs to Lola's and had a great time sitting at the bar taking in the bay breezes. They did a really good job remodeling both the upstairs and downstairs and the food was excellent. We were told that Lola's will have live music on weekends and one of my favs "Black Cadillac" is booked to play there on several dates this season. Worth going to see big-time! It looks like Island Bay Day '08 will be there this year too. After the great time there last night I'm really excited about having IBD '08 there

YAY ! Hemmingway's is a great location for Island Bay Day ! We've always enjoyed going there for dinner and their sunsets. M-F 1/2 price apps. at the bar from 4-7 and on Tuesday's 1/2 price dinner for local residents. I would just let your server know that you are a local.

Great thanks, do you have to sit at the bar? They need to post a menu.

Great thanks, do you have to sit at the bar? They need to post a menu. I am not sure if you need to sit at the bar for the 1/2 price apps, but I know they don't offer them at Lola's. FYI, if you have dinner on Tuesday, besure to tell your server that you are a local when ordering dinner.

Natalie at Hemmingways was very nice to send this to me as well as a menu. Now if I could only figure on how to up load the menu. Looks like a great deal. Can wait to try them .
Tuesday night is "local" night. We offer 50% off entree that does not have crabmeat. 25% off entrees with crabmeat. This if for the dining room and the bar. We offer happy hour every evening..1/2 off appetizers and $1 off beer, wine and liquor. Happy hour is limited to the bar only.

I asked tonight about a website with the menu's, and was told that they are working on that shortly. It can's hurt, only help.

It's funny how this place seemed to suck before "Bay Day" came along.

It's funny how this place seemed to suck before "Bay Day" came along. My family and I have been going there way before Island Bay Day. They did our small wedding dinner in December and the food and service was excellent ! I agree, some days were better than others. They have their former chef back, who is excellent ! And for what I've seen lately, it is very crowded, a sign that the food and service are up to par. FYI, they are not just members of this forum.

It's funny how this place seemed to suck before "Bay Day" came along. Well, I thought that it did too. After seeing the positive comments here we gave it a go and were very pleased with the changes that have been made. They have a fairly small menu now but what I had both times I've been there was excellent. It used to be kind of dingy inside too and now it's bright and clean. I hope that it stays this way because it's now one of my favorites.

you do seem to have a problem in that area, huh! never mind--just keep going to those happy hours; if i go to enough, i might stop caring, anyway! we stopped going to hemingway's (PLEASE! ONE "m"--ernest must be rolling over in his grave!) when cost went up but quality did not. we used to be regulars many years go, when it was under different ownership, but quality eventually declined. things changed, as things do, but we were not totally happy with our visits after that. however, we always liked the place, and will certainly give it another go. it would be nice if they posted a menu.
