Community-Outreach Meeting Scheduled for September 21
The MarylandTransportation Authority (MDTA) will host a community-outreach meeting in Chester next week to update the public on work that is currently underway as part of the Bay Bridge Preservation Project:
Monday, September 21 -- 5 - 8 p.m.
Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department Hall
1610 Main Street
Chester, MD 21619
Informative displays, a project video and informal discussions with onsite MDTA staff will be available.
Crews replaced the first of 156 new deck sections in the westbound through-truss Saturday night, September 12. To minimize traffic impacts and disruption, heavy construction takes place overnight during off-peak travel times. Weather and traffic volumes permitting, the westbound span could close Monday through Saturday nights as early as 8 p.m., with all lanes reopened by morning rush hour (later openings permitted on weekends). Two-way traffic will operate on the eastbound span to provide one travel lane in each direction during westbound-span closures.
Susupension-span re-decking concluded in April 2009, and the entire project is expected to be complete in fall 2010.
