Just got this email from Chesapeake Cats and Dogs. I'm sharing it on here with permission... I hope one of you can adopt this cat or knows someone who can. Many of you have met our Mugsie since she arrived at the center recently. Mugsie is depressed. Her person went to a nursing home and the family did not want to take care of Mugsie, so she ended up at the Talbot shelter, frightened and sad. We took her in but a busy adoption center is not the place for this little girl.
She grieved herself close to death and refused to eat, ending up in the emergency clinic in Annapolis on Wednesday. Mugsie is better now and was returned to the center on Friday. We will need to give her a lot of love to return her will to live.
Most of all Mugsie needs a forever home with someone who will be her best friend again, someone who is home much of the time and would give her lots of love and attention.
I ask each of you to help me find this new home for Mugsie. Please talk to people you know and think of your friends and family, as one of them may be the perfect person to bring Mugsie into their home and their life. Attachments:

What kind of cat is she and how old? Does she get along with other animals?

She's Himalayan. CCAD was told she was 5, but she might be older. She's currently sharing a room with another cat and they're getting along, but it's hard to tell how she'll do with other cats because she's so traumatized right now.
If you call during the week, Debbie who works there can give you more details. The number is 410.643.9955; open weekdays 11-3.

Poor kitty I hope she gets well. Is she not well because she has been seperated from her owners? So sad.

the word is that she is adjusting and doing well in her new home--purring, cuddling, EATING! what good news! Broke my heart when I read she wasn't doing well. I had contacted them about a possible home. An older couple who lost their cat of 20 years...She would have been perfect..but after thinking about it the couple was still to devastated to move on...sigh...I am so glad she is doing well...her face is so expressive. I wonder how her previous owner is doing...

A lot can happen in a day and a half. Two days ago you said she was adopted but not doing well. I hope she is doing okay.

I am pretty sure her person went into a nursing home and that is why she ended up at the rescue. Did CCAD get her out of the pound? or did she go directly to CCAD. I would hope the people who had to find a home for her just didn't dump the kitty somewhere. I wonder how her person feels about everything. Sad...

Unfortunately, Mugsie had to be put to sleep last week. Apparently she was not in good health when she came to CCAD and the stress probably made things worse. It's really sad, what happened to her, but at least the people at CCAD did the best they could to show her love and help her find a home before she died.

Sorry to hear about Mugsie. What a shame that her owner's family didn't see that animals grieve, and that they would be stressing her out more by adding to the changes in her life.
I totally understand that sometimes a family can't take care of an animal that they suddenly have to "deal with", but just dropping a formerly beloved pet off at the pound and thinking they've "done their duty" is still not the right way to go about it. Most of us wouldn't think of doing that to a child who was suddenly orphaned (although that happens, too, I know) but sometimes people just don't think.
I hope I'm wrong and that the family actually tried their hardest before dropping Mugsie off.....

OH, NOOOO....I am soooo sorry to read that this is how it turned out. What a sad, sad story. I sure hope that Mugsie's owner that went to the nursing home never has to know what became of her. How heartbreaking! For some reason, this kitty really got to me, just from her picture and her story! RIP Mugsie <3

The saddest thing is that she died of a broken heart, not a disease.
