I have old computers and monitors, so old nobody wants them. I was told I can't send them to the dump. Where can I take them? I also found fireworks in my garage that I have had now for about 6 years... do these last forever? If not... who takes fireworks that have not been used? Thanks

Well these folks just had their household hazardous waste disposal event last weekend, www.midshorerecycling.org/ , but I know they do it from time to time throughout the year.

Grasonville Transfer Station - 401 Gravel Run Rd, Grasonville 21638From here: www.qac.org/default.aspx?pageid=981&template=3&PageLevel=2&toplevel=34&cid=75And from the "what is recyclable" page: Electronics (Semi-Annual HHW/eCycle Events & at Grasonville Transfer Station at all times)

Yeah, you missed it by a week. The next hazmat dump is not until April 2010. I have been using the GV dump every week for a while. I've don't recall ever seeing a special bin for electronics there. Maybe it's one of those bins over by the refridge stuff pile. I'll check with Jack up on the hill this week to get the info.
Don't PC's have mercury in them and should not be placed in with general trash to be buried or burned?

Falgar, thanks for the location info.
mj, I'll look forward to whatever info you get. I've got a TV that needs recycled. I guess, that like PC's, it's supposed to have mercury, lead & other stuff that's not supposed to be mixed with general trash.

If he is still there, he might want the old TV, worth a try.

I don't think this one will do anyone any good. It was rather large & heavy (made a few years ago) and I was going to wait to unload it from the truck the next day when one of my sons could come by and help get it in to the house. Wife didn't want to wait that long, insisted I could get it in myself with the dolly. Turned out she was wrong, but I didn't say "I told you so" until she had helped pick up most of the pieces for the outer part of if.

Just dump them on the road next to the dump or in the bay.

I learned my lesson last weekend to call to see what they take and don't take at the transfer station... I ripped the carpet out of my living room and apparently they stopped taking carpet in 2006. And you wonder why people toss things on the side of the road... when you can't take it to the dump. lol. My carpet ended up in a dumpster.

I ran into that too. I had to get a little creative, and it took some extra time & work, but I eventually disposed of my living room carpet at the transfer station. I took inspiration from the old Johnny Cash song "One Piece at a Time", but I was sneaking parts in, not out. ;D

Yep Dej... I now have contractor bags and a sharp razorblade for the rest of it lol. It really doesn't make sense to me that you can take a refrigerator to the transfer station... but not carpet which would go into the construction debris container... or so you would think.

Mine ended up at work, in the dumpster. that's some of the stupidest rules they've ever come up with.

The really ironic part about having to sneak it in this way, is that the carpet by itself would probably break down pretty quickly in a landfill, but by having to sneak it in encased in plastic we probably add decades to that amount of time.
