Maryland state officials are bypassing the federal government to provide veterans access to critical services they need to make the transition back to civilian life. The state has launched what it calls "Maryland's Commitment to Veterans," an initiative that provides all veterans in the state access to local and state services. Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown says the state is the first in the country to launch such a program. Brown says it's important to provide a model for what states can do. Veterans can visit www.veterans.maryland.gov for information.
