Subject: Upcoming Maryland Eastern Shore Races that may interest Kent Island Running Network
Kent Island Running Network;
It was a very productive meeting (11/12), in spite of the downpour and bridge traffic. Everyone there indicated they were standing in for at least another five runners so it is apparent there is enough interest to go forward.
Trudy Humphreys offered to lay out a route, primarily along the trail, on MapMyRun that we can post. She and Beth Blair will look into marking trail from a good Start point and identifying Water Stop sites along the route.
I will continue working with the Peninsula Pacers to get our web site set up with a Forum, and maybe a Kent Island Network tab.
PLEASE get the word out to any runners you know or ‘run’ into about the network and get their name and email so we can add them to the distribution list.
Once we get things going, I will set up Training Schedules for Beginning Runners, Intermediate (10k, 10M, Half M.), and Long Distance (Marathon and Ultra Trail runs).
Any ideas/suggestions are welcome.

Greetings everyone,
My name is Noah Wood and I like doing races on the Maryland Eastern Shore. Ron, thank you for the e-mail; I was excited to hear about this group. I have included a list of races that I know of coming up on Maryland's Eastern Shore (two of which I have done before and enjoyed). I used to go to Salisbury University and graduated from there a few years back. During my time there, I got into running races on the far eastern and mid-shore areas of the Eastern Shore, and became familiar with the racing scene there. I liked the area a lot and kept coming back to races throughout all nine counties on Maryland's Eastern Shore. I have met a few of you over the years as I progressed in my successful 2007 endeavor to run a race in every Maryland county within a full year, and then again in 2008 just within half-a-year, and you therefore already know me. I can tell you that the Maryland Eastern Shore region is, from my subjective experience, the toughest to find year-around running events in. I think Queen Anne's County is one of the hardest counties in Maryland to find them, so I think it's great this group is forming right in Kent Island. There are races that go on in Queen Anne's County (such as in Centreville) that seem to be only advertised to locals, so had I not been at other nearby races to hear about them word-of-mouth, I probably never would have found out about them. I think that this group can help get the word out to a wider audience about some of these races. This situation about circulating information for these races seems to have already improved over the past year or so (and Ron's Bluepointtiming.Com crew appears to be helping with that), so I think what you all are doing is excellent. If any of you are interested in reading about some of my experiences over the past couple of years with races in different counties, you are welcome to check out my blog (which is in much need of updating I admit), at:
ranineverymdcounty.blogspot.com
That all being said, it is an honor to be included on this mailing list. Ron and Susan, I wanted to thank you both for plugging me in. I look forward to hearing about this club in the future. However, I currently live in Catonsville (which is in Baltimore County just outside of Baltimore City), and due to a fairly busy schedule with classes and a couple of jobs, it will probably be quite a while before I get back on the Eastern Shore for a race with a tighter budget on my funds and time. So please don't be offended if I do not make it to your meetings or events. However, I would not mind letting you all know about different races that occur on the Maryland Eastern Shore throughout the year that I have come to know about over these past several years in my travels. I am sure some of you have heard of them, but just to make sure I will include them. Like I said, I probably won't be back on the Maryland Eastern Shore for races for a while, so I do not think I'll make these three races that I mention. I will attach a double-spaced Microsoft Word document so that it may be easier for some of you to read. I hope you guys find this helpful and
informative if you are looking for local races to do, and I hope you have fun at these races if you do any of them!
- Saturday, November 21, 2009 - 24th Annual Turkey Trot Two Mile Fun Run - Denton
Elementary School, Denton (Caroline County), MD - 9:30 A.M. - This is a family-fun
out-and-back course on really flat roads. It starts and ends at Denton Elementary
School, going into the Martinak State Park in the middle of the race. There is also a
fun-run (that I think is a mile thereabouts) for the youngin's at 9 A.M. before the
two-miler. I have done this race for the past four years in-a-row and really recommend
it if you are looking for a nice course to get a good time on, and still enjoy a friendly
and cheerful atmosphere. For more information, check out Caroline County, Maryland's
webpage on it at:

- Thursday, November 26, 2009 - 1st Annual Turkey Trek 5K - Pemberton Park, Salisbury
(Wicomico County), MD - 9 A.M. This is a new trail run on Thanksgiving morning in
Pemberton Park. I have run in this park before and the trails are relatively safe and
fun to run on. This oughta rile up some appetites for a nice turkey dinner!!!!

- Friday, November 27, 2009 - 8th Annual Run for Hospice 10K and 5K Run - Talbot YMCA,
Easton (Talbot County), MD - 10 A.M. (10K), 10:05 A.M. (5K). I ran the 10K last year and
it was really flat and a pretty nice course. It is pretty much out-and-back, starting
and ending out in front of the Talbot YMCA branch in Easton, running along a nice country
road with trees on both sides, and then about a couple of miles in the middle of the race
is within a nice well shaded suburban neighborhood. They have a nice post-race ceremony
with a few awards in the gym of the YMCA after the race. I only did this event once so
far and I may get back to it in the future (but probably not this year). Maybe I will do
the 5K then, which I think I have heard is also really flat. If you are interested,
please check Talbot YMCA's website at:
www.talbotymca.org/easton/wellness/
All right everyone thank you all for reading, and again I hope this e-mail finds
you doing well. I hope that you all have fun at these races if you do any of them,
as well as a blessed Thanksgiving time
Sincerely,
Noah Wood
