Please do not "smite" people on here unless you disagree with something that they said. There have been a few instances on here where people log-on solely to "smite" another member multiple times a day. I will be checking the log that lists who does what every day from now on and if someone is abusing the "karma" feature, they are going to be blocked and the victim's profile will be returned to where it was before being hit.
Remember, these are your neighbors. Play nice!

Since it just seems to be such a bone of contention, and that people for some reason seems that Karma seems to validate their existence of some sort...you know the whole "they like me" syndrom... or lack of self esteem because they get smited....... Why don't you just block the feature completely or get rid of it.

I'm with you Eine, what purpose does the smite function serve other than, for the most part, the cowardly act of taking a jab at someone, without facing them, if you will. If you disagree with something, say it to 'em - if you agree, say it to 'em. If you can't express your opinions without hiding behind the Karma function, find another hobby.

How about making the karma feature public? Then when you smite or exhalt someone, they will know who agrees or disagrees with them.

If I have a vote I would vote to keep Karma, keep it private, but punish those who abuse it.
If you don't want to use it, don't use it, but don't take it away from those who do.

i disagree that it should be public. Basically it's a toy!! And some find some perverse pleasure in smiting and exalting people at whim.... I know I do. Any time someone complains about being smited...just makes me want to smite them over and over and over!! Now I don't log on and off all day to do so..... cause that's just silly...
But nevertheless, I have never in my life seen so many grown people get all bent out of shape because they were smited....
On the other hand... you gonna punish those that exalt people over and over for no reason?
If people get upset about the smites, then by golly being upset for the exalts needs to be equally represented.
Next time I get exalted, I must complain, because I certainly didn't do anything to deserve it!! I have added no value to this discussion whatsoever, and certainly shouldn't be praised just because you agree with me..... PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!
LOL!!!
(too much egg nog me thinks....)

What Mike, SG, & Falgar Said. and add to that: WHO CARES?
How in the world would opening up the smite log enhance conversations? IT would open up the battlefield even more. IF you don't like the game, pack up your toys and go home.
I've seen the log during past arguments and someone crying for it to be public, funny parts was THAT was the person with most of the SMITES in there...... Deny all you want. Some cry for it to be public because they really know it wont happen.
All of this crap really rings of the same old CRAP from 12 months ago.

Why should you be "smited" by someone if they disagree with your post? Attacking a person directly (which happens) or posting something in a disparaging way, yes. Disagree with a post, no. Should I smite Rich because I do disagree with his post.....seems juvenile and petty.
Regardless if the karma thing is just a game, doesn't mean anything or whatever.....it appears to not be encouraging new people to participate and exchange ideas, views and information on the forums. I think it shows in the lack of post/posters of late. There might be over 800 members now, but there isn't a lot more going on.
Why is that?
Please respond with all snarky responses here.....

I'm amazed at your knowledge of what the new members know, how they know it, and why they post.... Impressive!

Wow, isn't the horse already dead? Quit beating the poor thing! Who cares! I smite when the person annoys me. And supposedly that person is gone from the site. If you want to smite me go for it who cares! The people with the biggest problem with it are the ones annoying everyone then crying about it.

Interestingly I've been smited repeatedly the past two weeks when I haven't even said anything. Seems someone has too much time and likes to re-visit conversations in there head and re-smites me all over again.
My opinion is though if you are going to have the feature on your board it should have some guidelines on how and when to use it.

I tried changing a deleted account's name as per the user and ended up deleting by accident. I then deleted a bunch of non-essential posts by that user to try and get the handle less 'out there" since I couldn't change the name... All my fault.

It could be that someone didn't realize that and was a bit concerned about that other handle appearing so frequently in the public forum.

I learned something today! like "safetildecember" now shows up everywhere as a guest, I get it. I wouldn't want that paranoia everywhere either if I posted it.
