Well, here I am a day late and a dollar short again... just read this thread for the first time...
Hmmm.. I think the smite function is ... ... useful.. and fun! In fact, I think I may have abused it once. Someone, I forget who without going back and looking, was complaining about Karma going down steadily. I felt sorry for her and suggested a campaign to get her Karma back up. I think we got it up to about 15 or so in just a couple days! :-) Least I could do for a fellow citizen suffering from rejection depression.
But, I can understand the abuse..
Is it possible to show in a users profile how many times they have used the smite or exalt function? You don't have to show who they have exalted or smited, just how active they are with the feature. Be interesting to see who is addicted..
Best regards, BC PS, Rich was looking for suggestions for contests for the KIO party. I suggested a negative Karma prize might be fun!

It's that time again... Do not hit the same person with multiple "smites' - it is against our rules and it's just not a nice thing to do. I'll be going through the log and warning the culprits within a week. If it keeps up, these people will be banned. i don't want to be a nanny on here, so please just play nice!

Your post concerning karma should probably be posted up at the top, where all can see it. My two cents worth.....Rich, you shouldn't have to work at it this hard to get people to play nice with each other. There has been in the past the comments of the "karma" feature is just a game or doesn't mean anything.....well, obviously it does mean more than that. Maybe you should consider freezing it or right out eliminating it for a while or even forever. Why be aggravated with it? Might also be a good time to put at the bottom the forum page a new "the corrupt cop and politician" forum spot for those that are obsessed with that topic.

Rich... Ban the ones that are whining about being smited. Good Grief. If they are getting their panties in a wad over something so insignificant as the "karma" feature, then they have some serious issues, and probably need to spend more time addressing them than getting online worrying about whether or not people like them or not!

Eine,
I'm going to assume you did not see my other post on this topic. It has a whole lot less to do with whining about being smited than it does about phone calls to my home, PM's and people coming to my place of business.
If a Forum has a feature that enables it's members to "smite" or "exhalt" other members, than anyone who visits that forum can make a personal interpretation based upon that feature. How rediculious...true.
People can smite me all they want - does it bother me to be attacked that way for petty reasons when I feel I have contributed in a fair and responsible manner - yes...a tiny bit. But I can let that go.
I can't let go the "let's team up and make crank phone calls" or let's just all get on-line and "smite her silly" or how about, "let's send her nasty PM's" hoping she will go away...
Go Away for what? Because someone decided they don't like me (and it could be you or anyone else?)
It is a PUBLIC FORUM for heaven's sake!
I think I said it before - If I feel I can't comment or respond with my opinions in a respectful manner without being attacked for it, then I would prefer not to be a part of any of it.
I hope you understand.
Sempre Fi!

You all know you couldn't pay me to care less about the karma feature. I AM getting a bit weary of the emails and such telling me "so-and-so logged in and your karma went down X times"...and so on. I have even gotten two phone calls....to both I replied..."are you SERIOUSLY calling me to tell me this?!?!"
It's just gotten plain stupid.

can we do an enable/disable check box on our profiles? thought process... we can CHOOSE to enable or disable the karma feature but with that we cannot exalt or smite anyone if it's disabled???
just a thought - it would serve both parties... those who care & those who don't...
now the phone calls - that's crazy as you know what!

I'm going to place a poll on here - I'll leave it up until June 18th asking if the "Karma" thing should be eliminated - You all decide!

I think I said it before - If I feel I can't comment or respond with my opinions in a respectful manner without being attacked for it, then I would prefer not to be a part of any of it. I hope you understand. Sempre Fi! My opinion has not changed. The people that are calling you up and visiting your place of business should be banned as well. You shouldn't be afraid of voicing your opinion and as long as you stand by your opinion who cares if anyone agrees or disagrees. People who attack other people on their opinions 9 times out of 10 its because whatever you said hits a little too close to home and they don't like hearing the truth..... The other times the person is just a complete dirt bag who likes to stir up trouble. I have been exalted and smited for various things that I can pretty much guess what it was I said, and other times I am like hmmmm hmmmmmm Personally I find the exalt/smite button hilarious, and I certainly do not make nor assume someones brilliance or stupidity based on the amount of smites/exalts or lack of there of... my personal opinion is derived from reading the actual posts of those who do post and there are some really cool and interesting people and there are those I don't read a word because they fall in to perception of the galactic-ally stupid.,(actually I probably do read them just to solidify my opinion) There is no way in hell I would ever condone any forum member calling up someone and crank calling them or coming to their place of business to discuss what was said on a public forum, unless they were close personal friends.... That is uncool and like I said those that do that.... should be banned. Life is too short to take personal forums so seriously, but some do, and I can't figure out why..... to each their own I suppose....... But I have found your posts to be always well thought out, and full of useful information and usually dead on...... Those who didn't.... whatever is what I say.... Those of you whose karma falls you should be proud of that fact,,,because that means that whatever you are saying is being read and thought about it!! Call it reverse psychology,,,, the worse your karma, the better the person you are!!! LOL

Call it reverse psychology,,,, the worse your karma, the better the person you are!!! LOL[/quote I wear my negative karma well. Not sure that makes me a better person but I think there are lots of people who get fired up about what I have had to say. Just my opinions though. I would say that calling a person at their place of business or at their home is totally inappropriate. I would think that if this behavior was to become disruptive to a persons business or caused them undo concern about their safety - then there could be a legal issue for the person making the calls. People should understand that it is very easy to trace phone calls and other information when threats are being made. If this kind of thing was happening to me or a member of my family, I would NOT tolerate it. Hopefully the administrators of the site would ban the person or persons responsible before others decide to get involved. That might not stop the calls and the threats but those things can be addressed in other ways too. The information highway is a fascinating place.

Well, for those that really don't care who likes you or not and see it as a joke (like me) even the funniest joke gets sophomoric and annoying as hell about the millionth time you hear it and for those that don't see it as a joke....it's already annoying as hell. Either way you look at it...same result.
And...it's past the deadline...

A whopping 17 people voted in the poll, that's an impressive response.

clearly people do pay attention--whether they see low karma as a good thing or bad. if some don't care, a then why not just dump it for those whom it bothers? no harm done.
