Watching the news, a bill is introduced in Annapolis to make a Bay Bridge crossing from BALTIMORE COUNTY, to KENT COUNTY. Supposedly using a report done in 1963~ Unreal, whoever intrduced this one should not be in office.... A 40+ year old report can in no way be accurate anymore. The study that the MDTA did a while back shows that MOST of the beach traffic comes from the SOUTH. Why in the world would you build one north of here? GO PIPKEN- he wants to have free tolls when the toll plaza can't process them fast enough!

Free tolls isn't Pipken's idea. That was a "promise" made by Ehrlich when he was campaigning for Governor. The exact quote is (Item #53): "Waive the toll at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge whenever the backup reaches 20 minutes or more". However, during a discussion with Transportation Secretary Flanagan, he mumbled that the state was unable to provide that service because of the way the bonds are paid/billed. Just another promise made by a politician to get into office.

Most of the cars that I see in the summer seem to have VA tags or DC area dealer frames on the MD tags. Another bridge anywhere would help, but the efforts should be made to build one linking to Cambridge instead. I think that the only problem with a south bridge is that there aren't any real roads like 50 that would go there. the VA people would still have to come up to DC, then go back down 301 which is loaded with traffic lights. They would have to build a highway from N.VA to Calvert County, which would include a bridge over the Potomac. It's never going to happen.

There's a heck of a nice road from 301 going into Chesapeake/North Beach in Calvert County. Louis Goldstein knew it and bought a lot of property in the adjoining corridor.
