That would be days open... they cut it back to 3 days for most of them... 2 days for the others. What a PITA. I'm sure the adopt a road program will love it... (sarcasm)

At least we aren't taxed for municipal trash removal service that we don't receive in addition to the doubled dump ticket price for the reduced days open...that would just be stupid.......oh, wait..........

It really is getting hard to remove your own waste... is the county actually trying to push us to go to a paid removal service?

On a side note to this, I recall back when they raised the ticket prices, there was an article in the Capital newspaper where the "county" (not sure who, don't have it writing) had stated that over $300,00.00 in profit was to be realized by raising the ticket prices. This should boost "profits" even more. Just wondering where these profits are going?

Grasonville: tues-thurs-sat 8-4
Batts Neck: weds-fri-sat 8-4
The other stations, I feel bad for those that only have two days, one not being saturday, especially if they work full time during the week.
This new schedule is supposed to save $160K a year. How about last years changes.....the schedule was reduced to 5 days, from 6, hours were cut back from 5 close time, to 4 and the ticket price was doubled. These actions were to generate/save an additional $300k if I remember it right. What happened to that money? Maybe there should only be one day, how much does that save? Better yet, how about no days, how much does that save?
OK, more rant.....
Dumps, as they truly were in the past, now being a transfer station, are a needed part of rural living. Trash pick up by a company at one point was not even an option for a long time.....it is now for close clustered homes, but still not to homes out on back country roads.
I need the dump, I go to the dump once a week with trash and recycling. I also have wooded acreage that generates regular visits of brush, sticks, limbs and so forth on my property. One good t-storm that comes through is a trip to the dump. Add into that the extra stuff I will now have to collect (plus trash) along the county right of way since litter pick up has stopped, means additional need for the dump. I used to make large burn piles, but that just adds a whole list of other problems, like one being a burn ban over the summer.
Anyone that regularly uses the dump knows that the first day after a weekend and saturday are the busiest days. Now with a 3 day schedule, that's not going to change, it just means those days will be even busier. This past week already magnifies the issue of only 3 days, I would have gone yesterday to gville, but it was pouring down rain and windy. Did anyone actually go yesterday, why would you in that kind of weather. Now I have to go thursday along with everybody else because saturday is out for me this week, and batts neck is too far to drive to.
It's trash.....why does it have to be diffucult to do?
The county has about $109 million in generated income. Where and what is all this money being spent on and what can we do with out?

There is also the Mid-Shore Regional Solid Waste Facility which serves four counties of Talbot, Caroline, Kent, and Queen Anne's and just moved from Easton to Ridgely this year. $6/truckload, no sorting, load it up and dump it. This is a service available to QAC residents since we are paying for it anyway and this is where all of our trash is taken to from our transfer stations. I attached a link below and it's called MidShore II: www.menv.com/midshore/index.shtml

I wonder if reducing the dump hours actually saves the county any money? It is my understanding most of the station employees are part time and receive little pay?? Many actions taken by politicians have the reverse effect of what they hope for. In the past I usually stopped by the transfer station at least once a week. Sometimes twice. Yesterday was the first time I had a chance to go when they were open and ended up with about ten big plastic bags from about two weeks of waiting until a day I could go when they were open! Still only one ticket. And, speaking of tickets I don't think there has ever been a good system for collection of tickets. At least at the stations I have been to. I have sat behind guys with pickups full of the entire neighborhoods trash and never saw a ticket produced. Here we are now, with citizens buying less tickets (accumulating more trash between dump runs), and likely experiencing an increase in illegal roadside dumping which requires road cleanup. Much as I hate to suggest, but I believe that the local neighborhood trash guy (pickup full of stuff) needs to produce multiple tickets. And, the station staff needs to insist everybody who pulls up produce a ticket. Probably reasonable to require a ticket for up to 5 bags. More than 5 bags requires another ticket. And how about dump volunteers? If the county let me dumpster dive while I was there I would work for free!! Best regards, BC

Best regards, BC BS So they double the ticket prices, reduce the hours, and you want them to charge more tickets? I'm not in on that one. Keep the commercial guys totally OUT of the xfer stations, let the citizens dump for free. Lose 1/2 of the lazy staff at the dumps and make the remaining staff do their job or replace them. There's plenty of people who'll take those jobs..

You asked for budget reductions. You got them, along with increased FEES to cover costs. What are you complaining about?

The Grasonville dump.....I thought Jack (county employee), who works up on the hill was on vacation or something. Nope, he retired.....good for him, not so good for us in my opinion. Don't know about the other dumps, but it's all contractual employee's (hourly wage only) there now.
I see the difference.
