Is anyone else disturbed and bothered with the fact we do not have a true local news source for this area where you can get up to date news? Sure we have the Star Democrap, but they want to charge you $75 a YEAR to read their online articles. The Bay Times is printed I think once every harvest moon. We have to rely solely on word of mouth, this forum and press releases from the Sheriff's office (once every few days) to find out when something happens (Often a few days later). You'd think with as many people who live around here, we'd have some sort of normal news service for the area.

absolutely. i tried to go online to the star, but wow! don't think so. once a week for the bay times is not very current. there needs to be a news source that is available to all, not only those who have online access, or those who have cable rather than satellite or nothing, etc. there may not be enough people here to generate enough "news" to fill a paper, or to support a daily, but there does need to be something. even an e-paper that is free could be accessed by everyone one way or another.

Well, If someone wants to be a reporter I'll make a page on KIO - instead of the WNAV News page which isn't bad, but lacks weekend coverage and is more focused on Annapolis.
I can't offer much, other than a page and space if you want to sell ads to pay yourself, or I can try and get some ads and give a cut to the reporter(s). Any ideas?
The reporter would have to treat it as news and not commentary, which is sometimes harder than it sounds.

you are so right about the editorializing issue. and you have to be oh so careful about libel issues.
my days as a (newspaper) reporter are way past me, but i would like to help in some way if i am able.

I'd be a reporter, write articles and have moosie proof read and fix before posting. We'd have to be a team though

I don't want to call the Bay Times a joke, but that's how I feel about it. But i take it for what it is, it's not a hard hitting news magazine. It just seems to present some community stories and local "fluff" at times. It is what it is. I never look to it for " the real " story of any event. There have been many news stories even dating back to when I was in high school, that I knew the specifics of a crime or event, and the Bay Times either glosses over those facts or omits them all together. I agree and would love to see a more in depth paper.

Simple as that, BTime is a joke.

Hmmm.. I like the idea! Might actually grow into a self sustaining business.. online subscriptions. Lots of willing and able "Cub" reporters already on the forum! I might actually be willing to contribute an article or two periodically (with Moosie's blessing of course!) I also whine regularly about the lack of local news in the area. I often wish we could get the Salisbury TV channel included on the local channels list with DirectTV. At least Salisbury talks about things of interest to the shore.. The western shore news outlets hardly ever mention anything of interest to us on the "Outhouse Side" of the Bay. I do listen on the car radio to WCEI in Easton on 96.7. At least they talk about traffic and news of interest to the area. Give it a go! Best regards, BC
