If you don't already know..........
You can no longer go to a local MVA office in person to renew your vehicle registration. Only option is by mail, phone or on-line. This change was effective Jan 2011.

I've been renewing online for years. It's so easy, and you can do it day or night. That means not taking off work to renew your tags, or you can wait till the last day (as I do)

Man, thanks for the update! I was going to Easton and was going to do two registration renewals there.
The County Finance Office in Centreville still does it as soon as you walk into the County Office building on the right so will be hitting that (while they still have it before budget cuts) if not online. Gotta try that instead. Thanks again for the updates everyone!

This is pretty important to be categorized as "soapbox". Hope everyone notices this so they don't make a wasted trip.

It probably shouldn't be here, it wasn't my intent. I was ranting about the dump before this thread and stayed in it for my next item, even though dealing with the mva has the definite potential of a rant. I've had in the past few years some very troubling things happen to me all on the fault of computer errors with the mva. All were resolved, but I had to go the extra effort to fix them even though the the mva caused it.
Some highlights..........
- I received notice from the mva that my drivers license was going to be suspended in 30 days from the date the mva letter was drafted (not received) because my SS# could not be verified through the Social Security Administration. Something to do with the Patriot Act and identity verification now with drivers licenses. Each faulted the other for the problem.
- I realized my tags were about to expire on my '93 suburban, I had bought it brand new in the state. Had renewed tags multiple times over the years. I went to the Easton office to renew them, the mva had no computer record of the vehicle being registered in the state, like it didn't exist. Luckily, I had it there with me, they checked the vin, the plates and registration. They had to do a hand search of micro-fish records to recover the information. The mva could not give a reason why the computer records were gone.
- Went to mva to get tags and title for a used boat trailer I had bought. I was questioned about some vehicles that the clerk said I owned, I told her I didn't own the vehicles. I was asked for my drivers license, a supervisor came over to look at it and the next thing I know, I'm sitting in the little MSP office being questioned by a trooper. He's now holding my license, he turns to the supervisor and says "it's him" and hands my license back to me. I have a common name.....turns out my record and another unsavory type person with the same name has been combined. It was all fixed, but they didn't know why it happened.
I wonder what the next issue will be in the future. Just remembering all this gets me worked up all over again.....yeah, there's the potential of a rant here.

Fun times mj! They really do have a bass ackwards way of doing things at the MVA. The last suspension notice I received was from someone signing my name to multiple tickets.
In the end we are the ones that have to make up for others incompetence sadly, hope everything works out for you.

Good change, MVA.
Now, for those services that HAVE to be performed at the MVA, people won't have to wait in line behind folks renewing a registration who apparently don't have a phone, stamps, or internet connection.
(now my rant)...... if only the line could be shortened even further by getting rid of the illegals receiving driver's licenses.

I’m surprised Maryland just did not create another administration with 10,000 employees just for vehicle registrations. Heck we could it the VRA to add to the MVA, SHA MTA, DOT…..
