We are rapidly approaching summer where a lot of kids in our areas will be hungry during break. Schools will no longer be able to help support them during the day. Want to help? I was thinking about forming a small group Parents For A Cause and working towards ending the summer issues that our kids will face.
To start, this is one of my ideas. Do you want to help?
I was thinking something like a huge event that has everyone come out, and bring it back to old school
play games (remember when 4 Square was a game, not a social network?)
compete in competitions; 3-leg races, jump rope (Cinderella, dressed in yellow, went upstairs to kiss a ‘fella…) (did you know Baltimore [back in the day] used to have competitions for this? It was huge!!!!),
cook real food that isnt full of preservatives, have old school cook off’s
old car show
etc
Today, families are so wrapped up in technology that they twitter, email and text each other to communicate. Why cant we get “the family” out together without the phone, iPad, Laptop, etc? Invite everyone to one big get together? Charge an admission for those that can pay or donate? Funds go to buying groceries for the kids. Round up some kids (I know a handful on my street that would be happy to do it), deliver and stock some fridges and freezers.
I know there is “end child hunger” and they are underutilized, and one of their problems is delivery of the goods… so I was trying to think in full circle. Have the tools to put together the event by volunteer and donation, put the event on to be successful, (initial idea was battle of the bands, but that doesn’t encompass the whole family), and where the funds would go.
Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in, and we can work together
