I witnessed and heard a very verbal, heated exchange yesterday between two drivers while in Easton. I was at one of the intersections on 50 in Easton, I was stopped at the red light to turn left on 50, there was a car to my right to turn right, the car behind that guy starting tooting the horn. Then he really laid on it and yelled out the window for the guy to go, you know, to make a right turn on red after stop, the guy didn't go. There were hand gestures and so on. The guy that was on the horn, got out of his car and started yelling at the guy not turning, I heard the guy in the car that wasn't turning on red, yell that he didn't have to turn on red. The light turned green while they were at it, so I just pulled off.
That got me wondering.....I am under the impression that you don't have to turn on red after stopping. Your permitted to, but don't have to.
Anyone know about this for sure?
Side note: Were there any road rage incidents yesterday in Easton reported?

May I add, "If you CAN turn right on red, why would you NOT want to?", to the mix with mj's initial question? I encountered two people here in Stevensville yesterday that "chose" not to turn right on red...mystified me to the core. (oh, and I do actually think turning right on red is considered optional - but that's just me thinking smell the smoke? )

You don't HAVE to drive on the road with the rest of the public either, but if you do, you should be considerate. If people are waiting behind you, and you have a clear path/right of way, MOVE.
If turning right on red scares you, don't drive.
If turning right on red means you won't have time to finish whatever non-driving task you chose to perform instead of driving, pull off the road and finish it.
P.S. The above hostility is directed at driver #1 from the story, not MJ
P.P.S. I was not driver #2
